Trump Trapped: RNC Snagged
I’ll make this short and then turn it over to you all.
As long as Trump is polling in the top 2 or 3 in early States he can’t drop out and the RNC can’t force or even encourage him to drop out. After all he is “Winning” by the only measure that matters this cycle. In past cycles maybe there were only three or four tickets out of Iowa, two or three out of New Hampshire, and only one or two out of South Carolina. And most of that was driven by money, if you didn’t have one of those early tickets it dried up. But this cycle not only is money not necessarily the screen that it used to be (you being one Fries, an Adelson or a fifth of two Kochs from having cash for the distance), it wouldn’t operate anyway if you actually have one of those top two tickets.
As of now Trump is Trapped. By success. Or more precisely by successful excess. And I don’t see any mechanism by which the Republican Party can chase him away. After all I saw polls today that had him leading both nationally and in North Carolina. How much of a loser do you have to be to quit while you are on top?
Like a lot of people I thought The Donald was just into it for the grift. Get a little publicity, puff your ego and then pull out when it was time to release real financial statements. After all Celebrity Apprentice beckoned and even Trump can’t have figured he would actually be smoking Bush and Walker and Rubio in polling.
But now there is no contract with NBC and Holy F*ck Trump is heading up the field. At this point there is no escape except for full bore ahead.
Everything Trump whines about, he actually DOES. A globalist he is and a globalist he always will be. He is in it for the snag but due to a awful “field” has gotten way out of his control. My guess he implodes as the contradictions come in, but it is just a waste of time for a field that needs time.
I do not mean to sound like a cheer leader for Trump but we as a nation cannot afford more of the same do nothing politicians that are lining up for a position. Leadership is not a position ,it is all about doing. So with that who is the most likely candidate to bring true and meaningful change to America? It is a no brainer, hand down Trump. he can and will bring the many changes we need because he is not afraid. He cannot be bought. he will do what he says. He understands business and economies better that most. He has strong personal character and will get the job done…My only fear is that a few years out we could be at war again somewhere where my grand children will be doing the fighting but this my always become inevitable for Americans to have an eternal war to float the economy …
The last time I saw any news on Trump, he was in second place in a very large field. Very very strange.
The argument seemed to be that this was due to his name recognition. I can understand that but some of his competitors have run before and so also have name recognition.
Is he tapping into something those polled want to hear?
He could end up pulling the rest of the Republicans more to the right before quitting. That should help the Democratic candidate in the general election.
@William Ryan – I want you to consider something: all dogs have four legs. My cat has four legs.
Your position on Trump has you calling my cat a dog. The man is a clown and an incompetent. He’s declared bankruptcy more times than there are days in the calendar. His “understanding” of business is built upon being as predatory as possible without leave or care of the consequences. And that’s fine. For some reason sociopathy is a desired quality in capitalism. But not for someone that is supposedly a “leader.”
We’ve already had one failed, incompetent businessman as a president this century – if you recall, he jacked up the debt to an obscene level, embroiled us in two foreign, unnecessary wars, slashed social policies, ruined the media, and ushered in an era of Republican obstinacy that borders on treason. So my question for you, William, is why do you hate America so much?
There’s no big mystery here. Trump is popular because the anti-immigrant shtick is *very* popular with the white lower middle class Republican base. I’ve heard a lot of people make the point that Bernie Sanders can’t be written off because the policies he proposes are actually popular. Well, guess what? It’s the same with Trump and the nativist Right. And, I’m sorry to say, it’s not just the nativist Right.
The next time the NYT does a piece on Obama’s executive action on immigration, read the comments on the article. You’ll find that the vast majority will use words like ‘illegals’ and ‘crime’ and ‘drugs’ quite liberally. And this is not some backwater nativist rag. I’m talking about the New York Times.
Bernie Sanders is garnering support because his views are very popular. But I’m afraid that the same is true of Donald Trump. Both represent the real sentiments of their base better than whoever the superPACs decide can win.
I do not hate America Tyler . Both our fathers were war hero’s who were lucky to come home. One was at Normandy , the other was at Iwo Jima and saw them raise the American flag there. This does not make me any more American than you. I love my country as both worked many years as did I in business and in local government. I just feel that after all these years of getting nothing done as a nation we cannot afford any more Clinton or Bush philosophy. I’m not for the 1% ers or the “deep staters”. I really think that more enlightened people will make better decisions with regard to sounder economic policies to a more balanced trade agenda. We need better foreign policies, immigration policies ect. ect. We cannot lead from behind as a nation we need the best leader we can elect to lead our country to a new and rightful direction…When light gets shined upon the facts, the truth becomes apparent.
You are right William. We need a “candidate to bring true and meaningful change to America”. The important words in your statement are “true” and “meaningful”. That sure as hell is NOT Trump.
The great thing about the idea of a President Trump is that this guy has a demonstrated ability to stiff a bank. He really doesn’t bother himself with explaining his failures he just does it. Then lets somebody else pay the bills. A genuine role model.
As a lifelong democrat and now Bernie Sanders supporter I love this guy. I am thinking about sending him a few bucks every month to keep him braying from every cable news channel. Sublime!
I do not believe that you can send a socialist to the white house to compete with China. Nothing will change. It will not work as we are broke enough as a nation and should not incur more debt to China . We need above all else to break to death grip that China has on us by placing a strong business leader in the house who knows a bit more about Kapitalism. one who cannot be bought. One who is not afraid to “do”. One who will put the net worth tax on the rich. One who understands how the banks own the Fed Res and Treasury. One who will bring badly needed positive changes for our country. The only person capable in the whole pack is Trump… Just my humble .02 cents.
Oh, William. LOL! You are too funny. But your last sentence takes the cake and sums up the worth of your comments.
“Just my humble .02 cents.”
Well, you only missed it by a factor of 100. Most people would say, “Just my humble 2 cents worth.”
Re: “… more debt to China.”
Last I knew, China did not hold a large proportion of USA debt. Googling “How much USA debt does China hold” just now I make it about 7%.
As Mark Twain said, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
JimV the official tracker is called ‘MAJOR FOREIGN HOLDERS OF TREASURY SECURITIES’ and is found with a month or so lag here:
http://www.treasury.gov/ticdata/Publish/mfh.txt
As of April it shows Mainland China with $1263 bn and Hong Kong with $183 bn so yeah your 7% is pretty good for ‘Total Public Debt’ but should be right at 10% for ‘Debt Held by the Public’ (which excludes things like SocSec Trust Funds).
China’s holdings have been essentially flat for a few years now, which since debt totals keep going up actually means their holdings as a percentage are actually trending down. In any case they are not holding us hostage.
So kudos to both you and Mr. Twain here.
When I looked at the Dept. of Treasury data is shows a total of $6.137T in debt which if far more than 10%. Go ahead elect Sanders and just keep printing more dollars…Nothing will or can change. It looks like the 1%ers defending their positions. America is not a country to them it is a business . Freedom is not free that’s why we pay taxes. We are seeing China’s first pump and dump is the old capitalism trick. They are down now about $2.50T and falling as they hack everything to stop the bleeding. Smart money always takes dumb money as the big banks own the SEC, the Federal Reserve and the Dept. of Treasury…Trump may be a bit off in tone but he is dead on in knowing reality and telling it like it is. I only hope that his tone deafness created from his arrogance will not sink our chances to get our economy going again. Nobody else will say and do the things we need done to get America back on track. Just IMHO 2 cents.
