Trade with Mexico and Canada

As one commenter to this post (23 cars and trucks said) said: It is only for cars meeting the requirements of USMCA like having 75% of the parts sourced from North America.

U.S. goods and services trade with USMCA totaled an estimated $1.8 trillion in 2022. Exports were $789.7 billion; imports were $974.3 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with USMCA was $184.6 billion in 2022. There is more detail in the link.

New Deal democrat has said: Manufacturing in the US makes up 25% of the economy. I was looking around for a quote on this stat and could not find one that proved the 25%.

Rather than 25%, Manufacturing made up 10 to12% of the U.S. gross domestic product during that period. If it were its own country, the U.S. manufacturing sector would be the seventh-largest economy in the world. This would be an ~$11 trillion.

What I did want to do is look at auto manufacturing. Trump is discussing a tariff on cars. As I detailed about the deficit was ~ $184.6 billion in 2022. As I have said before, one of the big issues is Overhead for businesses. Overhead such as healthcare which is covered in Mexico and Canada. There are other things which impact cost also. Fix that and costs of manufacturing in the US decrease.
