MAGA is coming for your paycheck
There are other forms of taxation besides income taxes. Tariffs are really just taxes on consumer goods. And deportations will drive up the prices of produce that’s left to rot in the fields. Call it a “deportation tax.”

“The impact of President-elect Donald Trump’s promise of mass deportation is already starting to show.
“The California Farm Bureau says fears in the Central Valley have led to migrant farmworkers not showing up for work, which has virtually halted the area’s citrus harvest. Agriculture leaders in the Bay Area are worried about something similar happening locally and what it could mean for citrus prices.
“It’s the peak of citrus harvest season in Kern County right now, but the industry is taking a hit after immigration agents conducted several operations last week, targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
“The state farm bureau reports that action made some agriculture workers too afraid to show up for work.
“”We are certainly very concerned about what is happening and how that is unfolding,” Monterey County Farm Bureau Executive Director Norm Groot said.
“The Monterey County Farm Bureau said it is keeping a close eye on the developments in the Central Valley. Harvest season in the Salinas Valley begins in late April.
“The farm bureau said just the threat of deportation could be enough to deter many of the 55,000 migrant workers the valley needs to operate during harvest season.”
And Trump’s trade war has only just started. Inflation is headed up, which will certainly pause interest rate cuts. Promises made, promises kept.

Well we can always import fresh produce from Mexico–oh wait that will now be subject to a 25% tariff. The interest rates are not coming down and that is making it tough for those first time home buyers–mortgages cost more and those with existing mortgages are unlikely to move if it means taking on a higher rate mortgage–but maybe homebuilders will add to the existing supply, not. Can not understand why homebuilders will not build more homes even if half their labor force disappears and the price of lumber goes up 25% because of the tariffs on Canada–our closest ally. A lot of this is FAFO for MAGA, but MAGA is also antagonizing the entire world friend and foe alike and the end result is that we will have no friends while our old friends will be signing on with our enemies. That will be MAGA’s ultimate legacy–the end of the United States’ empire.
