Digging out
With two feet of snow and 40-50 mph gusts of wind yesterday and wind chill temps of -15 degrees F.,, it was quite a day this Jan. 29. I am steadily working on digging out of the snow this night and into Sunday but did not lose power nor heat so feel fortunate.
I think Dan is busy today too. Maybe an update later???
no offense, Dan, but in the Lake Erie snowbelt, we’re glad it’s you and not us this time…
LOL rjs. It is a similar feeling when DC gets the storm and we don’t get the nor-easter. All dug out and ready for the next one. There is a cold snap headed your way. I have a sister who lives near Cleveland who makes sure I am aware.
Yep, 3 places to clean out. I was out yesterday on 2 runs to 2 of the places. I have a 97 Jeep Wrangler I plow with. Put the chains on the rear. Makes a big difference. The hard part was keeping the wind shield clear with the wipers icing and at moments no visibility from the snow. But, I’ve been doing this for a couple decades now so have it all down to a science.
During the storm, had to push one lady out of the windrow that was left at an intersection. She said she had been at work since 3 AM. Plowed the windrow so her car could get through.
Have a couple of old Bolens hydrostatic tractors with snowblowers that help with the clean up. I’m spoiled with these. No wrestling like with a walk behind.
Cleaned it all up today. Wife wanted me done to start the games at 3. I got into the house at 2:30.
Rain and 50’s by Thursday.
Last year, we replaced our mailbox which was blown over from the wake of a snowplow in March.
Not quite a year later, almost the same thing happened again. The granite post we had installed last year is fine but the wake reached up and took out the mailbox perched on top.
So it goes; it could be worse; much worse.
Here are some pictures of my hill at one of the properties. For perspective, that stone wall is 10′ high. Looking up the road, that mound is about 4′ high. Once that space (about 4′ wide, 300′ long) fills up, the plows unload in my driveway.
The hill levels out for a short bit then continues up to the building but not as steep.
My wife used to come with me, but after a few times sliding down the hill she had had enough.
Well, I learned you can’t paste in pictures. I had deleted the above comment, but here it is back. So…here is a link to a dropbox folder with the 4 pictures for your pleasure.

You can post pictures. I have not done it as a commenter in a while. That IMG is for pictures. It just has not worked like it should.
several northwest Ohio counties are now under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, which means emergency vehicles only; anyone else will get arrested for being out….their snow started yesterday afternoon; here, 30 miles to the east of Cleveland, it rained all day and the snow didn’t start until 11 PM, so 6 inches is all i’ve seen so far, but it is now coming down at an inch an hour pace…radar shows the same storm stretches all the way back to southern Texas, so we still have a lot more on the way…
We will be getting it here starting tonight into tomorrow night. We’re at 46-48 degrees and fog but the temps will be dropping tonight. For my area the prediction is sleet, freezing rain, ultimately a coating of ice. This starting around 10 AM.
This is turning into a real winter for us this year. It’s been about 5 years or so that we’ve had such.
Daniel
I can tolerate snow. Keep the sleet and ice
