Yup. It didn’t take long for mainstream political journalists to misread the new poll on Rubio/Bush/Walker vs. Clinton.
Clinton is currently running ahead of all her likely Republican opponents, according to RealClearPolitics, but not by much: 4.2 points ahead of Marco Rubio; 5.2 points over Jeb Bush; and 6.8 points over Scott Walker.
These are not impressive numbers for a candidate with universal name recognition against candidates who are much less widely known.
— Can Hillary Clinton Be a Woman of the People?, Thomas B. Edsall, New York Times, today
Might the reason that Rubio, Bush and Walker poll as well as they do be precisely that they—and the policies they espouse—are not widely known?
Just askin’.
Edsall’s comment is the second one along those lines that I read this morning. And counting, I’m sure.
Is there really any doubt about what policies they will espouse? Cut taxes on the wealthy. More war everywhere. Spend less on the poor.

Beating them all , easily : ” None of the above”.
Not to mention that a 4-6% ultimate result in the general would translate to an electoral landslide for any Democrat. Such is the current skewing of the Electoral College. On the flip side a 4% ‘victory’ in popular vote for Congressional Dems translates to a big loss in seats in the House.
Plus I think like most elections this will swing as much on the negatives as the positives. And while I am biased I think Rubio and Walker have huge potential negatives. Much like Christie who was much more popular nine months ago before people started waking up to who he really is.
The wealth of FDR, Kennedy and Johnson should be the only answer required for Clinton or any Democrat with liberal policies. People with wealth are fully capable of grasping what the country needs to survive and prosper. Anger should be directed not at the wealthy themselves — most are operating under the rules in place — but at the Republicans who will always push the country in the wrong direction.
Thomas Edsall is always wrong. He’s pure journalist: true facts assembled by someone with no training in anything other than journalism.
