I am totally surprised how low the number is for those who want to cut defense vs increase it.
Daniel B., I think people get “support the troops”, the VA, and the Defense Dept mixed up. (Some people want them to be confused.)
Also, the DOD is so broadly based that a cut will hurt someone. Without knowing it is the other guy’s district people are afraid of cuts.
Which, if any, of these budgets is seriously in play?
I’m fascinated by the states with deficit hawk constituencies and politicians pull a 180 when it comes to defense spending because their state benefits from it–such as NH with Kelly Ayotte and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. In that sense, I you have a demographic of folks who decry gov’t spending except for defense.
