Time Passes Quickly for All of Us, and Then We are Old
August 21, 2025, Loyola University of Chicago. Why is this university so special for me? Well . . . I did my Masters work there which took me ~ three years to complete due to taking all the courses late afternoons or at night. The trip down to the Water Tower campus was done by train or my car going directly from work. Of course, the highways in the Loop were packed.
Much of this was paid for by the VA when the cost of classes were $300 to $400 a course. Far less costly then than now (I think?). So, who is the lady in the pic? That lady is Sister Jean who attended the Loyola University basketball games.
August 21, 2025, Sister Jean is 106 years old. I am sure there are many stories she could tell us. I believe her days of attending basketball games may have come to a close.
A Message from President Reed, “Happy 106th Birthday, Sister Jean“

My grandson just started there. Sister Jean may surprise you on basketball attendance.
Jack:
A good place to be for an education. Some of the Brothers can be difficult.
Loyola of Chicago is the brother Jesuit institution of Saint Louis University, where I spent 37 years on the faculty. Along the way, I paid an invited seminar visit to their medical school.
Joel:
They had asked me if you should visit and of course I told them yes. Glad you remember the event.
