40 Broken Promises+3 more
“Forty broken promises” from his 2016 tour of duty as the President plus three more over the next four years which will fall by the wayside too.
Already learning about the recent promises which can not be kept or would result in worst conditions. What promises did h make and then backed away from after the election? The backpedaling to lesser achievements as the three campaign commitments are set aside. But this is Trump and he can do anything, right?
Rounding up, detaining, and deporting 11 million or more immigrants? Election promises are to make as a candidate. But what about when you are the Pres? Then reality comes home when you have to deal with the costs of doing all three of those actions. And what about the economic fallout. Many are doing things most US citizens would not want to do unless the pay was there. Trump’s Pledges 2024.
Deportation Shelved
Lets go through the issues a point at a time: Point 1: Deportation will be $100 billion-plus yearly throughout his presidency. Point 2: Economists in the group believe 7 million of those immigrants hold down jobs and deportation will disrupt labor markets. Point 3: Pulling millions of people from the workforce will create temporary shortages of the products they produce resulting in price increases. We already know companies will take advantage of the labor shortage and increase prices even though labor costs are typically a small portion of total cost. Point 4: But American workers can replace them! Yep, for sure they could replace them. Replace them as a higher wage plus that Overhead called Benefits. Companies like cheap Labor that can not complain to the government about working conditions plus no Overhead costs from Benefits.
Deportation will continue for immigrants the same as what occurred under former Democratic Presidents Obama, Biden. In other words, deporting those charged or convicted of serious crimes or links to foreign terrorism. This will affect only 4 to 5 percent of those Trump promised to deport and was already U.S. policy.
Building the Wall
In 2016 a reality check came from Republicans in Congress to Trump. They who balked at paying for it. (Trump’s insisted Mexico would pay for it was even more ridiculous.) Trump did manage to build 80 miles of new wall, spanning 4 percent of the border by pulling funding from elsewhere. He did replace another 372 miles of wall built under Barack Obama and George W. Bush. GOP budget hawks in Congress are unlikely to fund the much higher costs of Trump’s 2024 plan for immigration.
Bringing Prices Down
There is Trump’s claim about lowering prices in the US during the election. That challenge has changed to slowing price inflation. The Biden administration was already doing such and was delivering a sound economy as well. Price Controls might do it. The US went through that experiment under Nixon for the same reason. Remember this?
“Aug. 15, 1971, in a nationally televised address, Nixon announced, “I am today ordering a freeze on all prices and wages throughout the United States.” Cato; “Remembering Nixon’s Wage and Price Controls.” Several months out of the Marine Corp then.
All of these were stupid ideas and the public went for it because they thought the Economy under Biden was bad. Yes, Trump can sell his version of reality. He can not make it happen. We are all in for a rough four years as he and the two make-believes steer us into a bad economic outcome.
