Just a reminder: you can still be a patriot even if you never were a member of the US military, and you can still be a traitor even if you *were* a member of the military (see, e.g., the 6 January riot at the Capitol). Military service is no warranty of patriotism.
I don’t think I was patriotic during my service, it was a career.
I am somewhat embarrassed, I occasionally wear an old Air Force PT shirt, when someone says “thank you for your service”.
I was lucky!
