Rubio Goes Back and Forth on the Fees for the Hormuz Strait. He Needed Permission . . .
Trump’s new policy drew attention to remarks Rubio made just weeks earlier, while on a visit June 23. A visit he paid to the United Arab Emirates. It was then he slammed the prospect of transit fees in the waterway in a caution to Iran.
June 23, 2026: Marco Rubio’s warning ‘no country’ can charge ‘tolls’ in Hormuz: June 23, 2026:
Rubio: “That’s the law. It’s an international waterway. No country is allowed to charge tolls or fees on an international waterway,” That’s existing international law. That’s the way it is in international waterways all over the world and that’s the way we’ll expect it’ll be here.”
“I think all the countries in this region would agree,” he added.
Fast Forward to July 13, 2026. Tr__p: “We had a deal, it was a done deal and then broke it. They always break it,”
The US is known as the The Monarch of the Seas Oops, I meant, The U.S.A. will be, from this point forward, known as “THE GUARDIANS OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT.” Not quite the seas but a small opening between the countries of Oman and Iran. Looks like Secretary of State Marco is reversing course due to Tr__p’s decision. Changes to Come?
- The first change is that the blockade against Iranian ships is back on, while all other countries are free to enter and exit the strait.
- The second change is that the U.S. will now be reimbursed “at the rate of 20% on all cargo shipped” through the strait, which Trump said is a matter of “FAIRNESS” because the United States is the country guarding passage.
“the U.S. will “keep” the Strait and will “probably run” it. He floated calling the USA the “guardian angel” of the strait during that appearance, but pivoted slightly a few hours later.”
