“ICE in My Latte, Not in Our Communities”
What is happening down in Arizona? These businesses will be giving up Friday’s revenue by shutting down a day in protest of the government’s actions and the killing of Alex Pretti and Renee Good by Federal authorities.

Fair Trade Cafe in Phoenix is hosting an “ICE in My Latte, Not in Our Communities” event on Thursday. There will be a DJ from 1 to 4 p.m., and a percentage of proceeds from the whole day will go to Puente Human Rights Movement and Borderlands Resource Initiative.
Hundreds of organizations have come together to call for a “national shutdown” on Friday to protest the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids under President Donald Trump, and multiple Arizona businesses are taking part.
The shutdown, a response to the recent killings of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Silverio Villegas González, and Keith Porter Jr. by federal agents, calls for people to unite in “no work,” “no school,” and “no shopping.”
“Every day, ICE, Border Patrol and other enforcers of Trump’s racist agenda are going into communities to kidnap our neighbors and sow fear,” organizers state on the protest’s website.
“It is time for us to all stand up together in a nationwide shutdown and say enough is enough!”

The targeting of Minnesota is obviously politically motivated. It is estimated Minnesota has 100k undocumented immigrants. That’s about 2% of the population. Florida has an estimated 1.6 million undocumented immigrants representing 6.6% of its population. Almost 1 out of every 15 people living in Florida is here (in Republican words) illegally. If ICE wants to maximize deportations a sweep of Florida would be easy and yield much higher results. I could not find any information on how many deportations have taken place from Florida. I don’t know why Democrats and the media don’t hammer on this fact to make their point.
Mark:
From what I read? Both Florida and Texas cooperate with deportation through the Feds. The bigger picture here is having enough Labor to meet future needs. Americans just are not doing it. Immigrants reproduce more.
We are at 1.7 per couple today. Replacement was discussed when we hit 2.0 in 2006. I believe I have repeated myself multiple times since 2006 when the Smithsonian had an article on it.
I guess my point today would be, we do need the extra population for the future and to care for us oldsters. Nobody thinks of the future . . . just today!
Bill, I don’t dispute we need the labor. I don’t dispute Texas and Florida cooperate (and that is probably because ICE is not doing sweeps in those states). My point is Noem, Homan, etc. say that anyone who is here illegally is breaking the law and should be deported. I don’t understand why Democrats and the media don’t exploit the fact that this is about politics by pointing out there are no sweeps and mass deportations from Republican states.
Mark:
There is only one reason for not going against them, they are afraid of Noem and Trump. But there is no reason for Dems not to talk about the lopsidedness of the political attacks. Then too, such sweeps, deportations, and kidnaps are unlawful without some type of court hearing. You are correct in your comments. Dems have the power to push back and are not doing it.
