After all of the issues being caused by the Tru_p administration. Robert Reich asks readers on his site what year was the one was the worst. Robert’s terminology is more direct than mine. Pick one from the list and offer a reason why or add another year in comments.

I’ve had it with all the “tis the season to be jolly” bullshit. I don’t feel jolly. I’m angry and appalled at what’s happened to America and the world this year, under the worst president in American history.

I was talking recently with some of my former students, who agreed that 2025 was horrific but thought 2020 even worse. Then I reminded them I was born a half-century before them and had lived through some years that made 2020 look good by comparison.

So, in the spirit of the awful year that’s just about to end, let me ask this question: What’s the shittiest year you’ve lived through so far?

My candidates are the following:

2025, for all the obvious reasons.

2020, because of the pandemic, wildfires, Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

2001, because of the terrorist attacks on America and the start of the “war on terrorism.”

1968, because of the Vietnam War, the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., the burning of our cities, and the election of Richard Nixon.

Other? Or have you lived through worse? 1950, and the start of Joe McCarthy’s communist witch hunts? 1941 and the start of World War II? Anyone remember Hitler’s rise?
