Just Some Notes on Ukraine
Zelensky wrote on social media: ‘It’s important to not forget the main goal, to stop the Russian war and prevent it from breaking out again in the future. ‘That’s why we’re so carefully working on every point, on every step toward peace.‘
Trump had given Ukraine a Thursday deadline to respond to the proposal, which would require that Kyiv cede territory to Russia, block its ambitions to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and cap the size of its military amid other major economic and political concessions to Moscow. Ukraine has said the plan needs adjustments with European input.
The challenge for Kyiv has been to remain conciliatory toward Trump while charting a course for further talks that could extract concessions from the Russian side. Endorsing a version of the U.S. plan that is stacked more in its favor would put pressure back on Moscow to yield on key points.”
AB: Maybe I lost track? Who was the aggressor in this war? It is obvious Russia attacked Ukraine. Supposedly, the attack came in 2022 resulting from NATO’s push eastward closing in on Russia. One point to keep in mind.
“The seeds of the hostilities were planted about thirty years earlier by President Clinton and, later, by George W. Bush, both of whom recklessly pushed for NATO’s eastward expansion. Further exclamation: Russia Is Not an Aggressor, and Ukraine Is Not a Victim.”
AB: It would be good international politics if the U.S. would back the promises and treaties made from president to president. With one notation . . . Tru_p does not keep agreements. Everything has a price to him. In this case appeasing Russia.
Russia did not want Ukraine to become a member of NATO. For US interference, Ukraine will pay a price as negotiated by Tru_p who cares little for what happens to Ukraine. This is not much different than what is occurring on the Gaza strip.
AXIOS has the list of 28 demands by Tru_p on behalf of Russia for review: “Trump’s full 28-point Ukraine-Russia peace plan.” What would the Ukraine have to lose with Tru_p, Rubio, and Kushner negotiating on behalf of Russia? Why is Kushner there?
The list of 28 demands by Tru_p of Ukraine is also similar to what is being demanded of the Gaza Srip. Questions were forth coming of the Russia-Ukraine peace plan. US politicians suggested the proposal’s 28 points did not originate from Donald Trump’s administration but were put forward by Moscow.

Chris Hedges explained the significance of Ukraine years ago: “Ukraine’s Death by Proxy–Ukraine is a pawn for militarists intent on degrading Russia and ultimately China in a self-defeating quest to ensure U.S. global hegemony. The end of this war, like most proxy wars, will be ugly.” Ukraine’s Death by Proxy – The Chris Hedges Report
The US finally learned to use other people to fight its wars after a string of defeats in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The outcome looks to be the same–a pointless and futile misadventure, which benefited defense contractors and corrupt proxy regimes enormously.
Smedley Butler was right–“war is a racket,’ which means that the US will do it all over again in a few years.
I don’t think Korea was a defeat. South Korea’s culture compared to the north’s demonstrate that. That fact does not contradict Smedley Butler. Some wars are worth fighting but not all.
Jack:
I agree. South Korea has come a long way and is competentive globally.
The problem Zelensky has it that neither the US nor Russia have a very good record of honoring international commitments. It’s not like Russia didn’t have a treaty granting Ukraine independence in exchange for giving up its nuclear arsenal. It’s not like the US didn’t make a commitment to keep Ukraine independent. On the positive side, he should feel no concern if he signs an agreement and then Ukraine fails to meet its terms.
@Kaleberg,
Zelensky knows the price Russia is paying to stay in this. And he knows his people–they’re not interested in being slaves to Russia.
Ah, yes! The omnipresent narrative about the nobility of the fight against the Russians and other tyrants. Where did we hear that before? Oh right! Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.
Nothing like trumpeting human rights as we have the wogs bombed to death! Kill a village to save it! Rah! Rah! Rah!

Shutup! You do not know what you are talking about
Kissinger: “It may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal,” particularly when America’s friend is being used to fight a proxy war…
Almost 100,000 young men flee Ukraine in two months
Sane Ukrainian men know how to avoid being used as cannon fodder in a US proxy war…
John:
Just to be used as cannon fodder for the Russians. They use foreigners in the Russian military also. Not everyone attacking Ukraine is Russian. So what is the difference? Fight for your own country in your country or be sent off to some other country to serve for the Russians?
