When is a deal not a deal?
Do we say that a blackmailer is trying to reach a “deal?” Is a successful extortion a “deal?”
“Harvard’s hundreds of unionized professors are pushing the university not to make any deal with President Trump in its deepening dispute with the White House, and they say they hope to flex their increasing organizing prowess to oppose threats to academic freedom.”
*snip*
“I expect that the AAUP and the faculty will react very strongly against any sort of deal, precisely because the independence of the university is vital to everything we do,” said classics professor Richard Thomas, an at-large member of Harvard’s AAUP chapter.”
Quit calling it a “deal.” It’s either resistance or capitulation. Negotiating with terrorists just leads to more terrorism.

Deal: “An agreement entered into by two or more parties for their “mutual benefit” especially in a business or political context.”
It is not deal when an agreement is made under threats such as Tr__p uses with any negotiation for which he is involved. It is not even a negotiation. It is complete capitulation to his demands.
So yeah, Harvard and its profs should be pushing back on Tr__p.
