Show Cancellation Three Days after Colbert Calls Out CBS
An Interesting Coincidence . . .
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) tweeted about the questionable timing. Elizabeth Warren Demands Paramount Explain Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ Cancellation
“CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery. America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons. Watch and share his message,”
Warren tweeted, sharing Colbert’s message to his audience.
Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) was a recent guest on the “Late Show” and also referred to the timing in a tweet.
“Just finished taping with Stephen Colbert who announced his show was cancelled. If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better,” Schiff tweeted.

Businesses with individual services contracts often advise people under such contracts that there won’t be another one in advance of public release of information, if there ever is one. Plenty of NFL players are heading to trading camps in a couple of weeks knowing their team is not going to offer new terms as their current contract enters its final season. Not suggesting Colbert’s criticism of Paramount is somehow invalid, just the idea that he and his representation weren’t aware of this in advance seems pretty unlikely. Not impossible, but it wasn’t like the ratings versus production costs were an obvious big winner for CBS.

One of the most popular shows on television right now, outrating just about everybody. But it’s more than just the ratings: the show is firmly rooted in the early days of television, is an American icon. Canceling the show is the end of an era, in many ways the end of “America”
And I’m pretty sure that approximately 99% of angry Colbert fans only watched the show via YouTube clips. Easy enough not to …
