“The airline says it is suspending flights from Vancouver to Austin until October.
“Flights to other destinations, including Orlando, Los Angeles and Chicago will also be halted at different times between June and August.
“WestJet says it is adding more flights within Canada and to Europe instead.”
All those canceled flights would have brought tourists to spend money in US hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues. But probably not Mar-A-Lago or Bedminster, so who cares, right?

My girlfriend is a Tripadvisor destination expert, and she has seen a huge drop off in travelers visiting the US from Canada. A lot of people from other countries have been asking about visiting the US on the site, and there isn’t much for her to spin a positive story from. Canada has always sent a lot of visitors south, but the current political situation and Trump’s belligerent remarks have raised a lot of Canadian hackles. Who knew Canadians even had hackles? Well, thanks to Donald Trump, we know that they do.

On the other side of the equation, my daughter and her wife (along with my grandson) are moving to Halifax because of Trump.We moved to Rhode Island after 40 years in St. Louis to be close to them in Acushnet MA. You can understand why I and (especially) my wife are pissed at Trump.

Given Trump’s antics, I would not leave the US borders anytime soon. We are associated with him regardless of our beliefs and who we voted for in 2024.
