Loyalty Day Returns After Being Absent Since 1955

Similar was a part of the Red scare of the fifties when McCarthyism was the political(?) flavor of the day. The idea was to instill hysteria promulgating over a perceived threat posed to the U.S. during the Cold War. Not so much the fear of communists today. What is occurring is a range of actions having a profound and enduring effect on society resulting from a change in Political leadership in the government. Government employees are being looked at to determine whether they are sufficiently loyal to the leadership. Lawyers in this case, citizens and foreigners in other instances. The later being deported.

I meant Loyalty Day!

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2025, as Loyalty Day, and in accordance with Public Law 87–20, as amended, as Law Day, U.S.A.,” the president wrote without a hint of irony, asserting the power to declare a separate holiday on top of the one authorized by statute to celebrate the rule of law.

Good to see the classic shirts make an appearance!

Anyway, for the many, many lawyers, judges, and support staff out there… we hope you had a Happy Law Day! And for the firms who’ve signed pro bono deals with Trump: “Happy Loyalty Day,” I guess.
