International Travel with Trump as the President
At this particular point in time, I would forestall any travel to Europe for work or vacation. My German cohorts were always somewhat cautious around myself and others. Herr Trump and his band of sycophants have caused serious damage to the US imagine and relationship. The same as Trump, they would be suspicious. They will avoid coming to the US, I would avoid travel to Europe presently.
NPR reports, the Germany’s Foreign Office has adjusted its travel advisory for the United States. This comes after several of its citizens were arrested and detained by immigration authorities while entering the U.S., as media reports. Germany is warning citizens, entering the U.S. through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) or a visa does not guarantee the right to enter the country.
Germany’s foreign office’s guidance is the U.S. border officials have the final authority to make decisions about whether someone can enter the country. There is nothing the German government can do to reverse a denial of entry. It recommends that travelers be able to provide proof of their return trip home, such as a plane ticket.
Officials on Saturday told NPR the country’s consulates general are aware of cases of German citizens being detained.

United Kingdom is warning its residents to comply with all entry rules or they “may be liable to arrest or detention.” The move comes after a tourist from the U.K. was reportedly arrested and detained by ICE at the U.S.-Canada border earlier this month.
As a result, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands and Ireland have updated their travel guidance regarding people’s gender markers on their travel documents.

New figures from the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show overseas international arrivals for the month of March dropped 12% compared to the same period last year. The figure excludes arrivals from Canada and Mexico.
After forecasting a 5% dip for inbound travel to the US February 2025, Tourism Economics has revised its projections. Instead it predicts to CNN Travel, it now expects that figure to almost double to 9.4%.
Summer hotel bookings from European travelers for Accor properties in the US are down a whopping 25%, CEO Sébastien Bazin said in a recent interview with Bloomberg TV. Accor hotel brands include Fairmont, Ibis, Novotel, Mercure and Raffles.
Jean-François Rial, CEO of France’s leading luxury tour operator Voyageurs du Monde, said that ever since Trump’s inauguration in late January, bookings for US travel among his wealthy French clients have dropped a “colossal” 20%.
“In the 30 years I’ve been in this business, I’ve never seen anything like this for any destination. It’s huge,” he told CNN Travel.

Domestic Airlines reacts to Europeans
Delta, Air France-KLM and Lufthansa all note their trans-Atlantic flights, have become less popular in the first quarter of the Trump administration. Indeed, these flights make up a significant chunk of yearly revenue. Bookings from Europe to the U.S. for May through July travel window are dropping sharply. It is expected there to be a year-over-year decline of 10 percent.
Carsten Spohr, the CEO of Germany’s largest airline, Lufthansa said: “When it comes to vacation trips to the U.S, especially from the German, Austrian and Swiss markets, it’s easy to imagine conversations around the kitchen table where families are saying, ‘We don’t know yet if we really want to go.”
Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian told The Sunday Times: “There’s a political question in the U.S. around immigration, but we need to make certain that people feel comfortable coming here.”
As long as Republicans keep making the “mean” statements and Trump keeps babbling incoherently, the US will suffer economically due the the loss of foreign visitors.
