Little Girl Growing Up in Chippewa Falls Wins in Wisconsin
Winning a judgeship should not be a big deal. Susan Crawford won or will win a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The problem as I see it? This was not about who would be the best judge or better credentials. It was about political party and which political party may or would benefit from their candidate being elected to the judgeship. Democrats still have the edge at 4-3. It should not matter. It does matter wih regard to political beliefs.
Keep in mind the numbers of Dems v Republicans is at 300,000 favoring Repuns. Another 1.4 million are undeclared.
Having lived in Dane County, Wisconsin; I can speak for the liberal attitude there. The schools were good and the atmosphere was friendly. I was active in soccer and the Boy Scouts. My wife was active with the Girl Scouts. Having Madison soccer play Waukesha soccer, there was an altitude towards country versus city. We were not supposed to win.
Neither are Democrats supposed to win when Musk pours $millions of dollars into an election. Especially when two people are given a $million a piece by Musk. Susan Crawford “used Musk as a foil at her campaign events” and more than likely called him out as trying to buy an election. The $15 million spent by Musk in Wisconsin did not matter. Latest news said $21 million was spent on the Repub candidate.
Is this an indication of things to come in two years? Not yet. Trump and Musk are not done blowing themselves up yet.
“Wisconsin Supreme Court election 2025 results: Susan Crawford defeats Brad Schimel,” NBC

As a former lawyer and resident of Wisconsin–lived in Shorewood which just might be further left than Madison, I am glad Crawford won–and sent her campaign a little money–but I am truly disheartened by the politicalization of the nominally nonpartisan Court. That is particularly true when Musk has a case which could be decided by the Court during Crawford’s term. This has been going on for some time in Wisconsin and I will not suggest it is only Republicans who do it. Wealthy people who have business before the Court try to buy a justice or two. Schimmel was plainly for sale and did not win but others have in the past and will in the future. I preferred the days when most judges tried to apply the law for the good of the state and country rather than the good of their biggest donors.
Terrence:
We lived on the westside of Madison some 30-something years ago havimg moved from Chicago to work at Ohio Medical which latter was sold and I was out of a job. For the 8 or so years we were there, our three children experienced much they would not have had in Chicago such as camping on Madeline Island, camping the rest of the state, going to the football and basketball games, running the Madison 56ers, and experiencing a superior public-school education.
Govenor Dreyfus once stated “Madison is 30 square miles surrounded by reality.” When you said Shorewood, I thought of Shorewood on Lake Mendota, an upscale neighborhood. Madison, Wisconsin then was the place to raise children. Wisconsin still had issues too.
Both Clintons were business related as was Nixon, etc. I think maybe Carter was one of the few who had a concern. Were the former so extreme as to be a danger to people, the welfare of the nation at the people’s expense to promote their own well-being beyond politics? No, they were not.
What I do not understand is why people do not see through these charlatans who claim they will promote their interest. We have a chance with Democrats. We have little or no chance with Republicans. So we pick the lesser of two evils. The money-interests are still amongst us as are the ignorant who believe “well maybe this time.” This time never comes as the character of politics is slimy and serves self-interests mostly. In this case, it is 100% evil.
I do not find Repubs having much interest in people. minorities, infrastructure, etc. unless it comes out of a business led economy. They promote the welfare of the individual as opposed to the overall society we live in today.
I have seen this in Wisconsin before. I have also seen Wisconsin go in the opposite direction at the people’s expense too. I would error on the side of people. The economy can always make up the difference.
