Trump takes NYC hostage
New York City has had a long history of problematic mayors, and the corrupt current mayor, Eric Adams, is honoring that tradition. Now, heaping corruption on corruption, the corrupt current President, Donald Trump, is trying to exploit the corrupt Justice Department to do a corrupt deal with Adams:
“ . . . President Trump had set up an arrangement in which he was essentially blackmailing the mayor into letting ICE run free through the city in exchange for his freedom. We now know — not terribly surprisingly — that this is a deal Adams happily entered into or negotiated. But that doesn’t change the essential point: the mayor’s will is no longer his own. It also doesn’t matter whether you support giving ICE the keys to the city. What matters is that the mayor’s will is no longer his own. He’s controlled by Donald Trump.
“Now, no elected official ever acts uninfluenced by others. No person does. But Donald Trump controls Adams’ freedom. That’s totally different. As I said yesterday, there might as well be a hostage taker holed up in Gracie Mansion with a gun to the mayor’s head. This is no longer about Mayor Adams or what he might have done in the past or what crimes he might be guilty of. The injured party is the people of New York City. The people of New York elected and are entitled to a mayor who controls his own will, who is free to make his own decisions. They currently do not have one. New Yorkers didn’t elect Donald Trump to be mayor. But under the current arrangement, he is the mayor. The governor has a responsibility to restore democratic governance to the city by removing the mayor from office.”
I hope Gov. Kathy Hochul does the right thing, and quickly.

I suspect that Marshall’s frame around this of indifference to supporting ICE cooperation or not might not be a good read of this situation. Hochul might not actually be against cooperating or indifferent. Being aligned with the federal officials on this might be advantageous to the state in ways she would like to avoid explicitly stating and having an unpopular mayor to point at as responsible could make it easier to deflect critics. ICE apprehending and removing criminals from the city might be a good thing.
@Eric,
ICE apprehending and removing criminals from the city would certainly be a good thing. ICE is after apprehending and removing undocumented immigrants, regardless of whether they are committing criminal offenses.
Apparently, this isn’t Josh’s read, this is a quid-quo-quo by the mayor to avoid criminal prosecution for which there were witnesses.
Trump and Homan intentionally talk tough about deporting all 12 million. If they don’t, the illegals will still keep coming. Homan has repeatedly said that what he wants from the city is access to the jails so he can safely send one ICE officer to collect one criminal. The safety of his officers is compromised when they have to send a SWAT team to a location where there are multiple people and they have to sort out who is who many of which are released.
@joe,
“Homan has repeatedly said . . .”
LOL!
Homan and Trump have repeatedly said that what they want is to round up millions into camps and deport them.
And we should trust Homan . . . why?
The fact is Joel, our economy will collapse without the illegal workers that are paying taxes, working their butts off, and have been raising families in our country for years. No one understands that better than Trump the builder. Now that the border is sealed tight, I predict the next thing Trump will do, after they pass the major bill their working on now, is to address legal immigration which is near impossible for many to navigate as is. For the ones already here, I expect something like a probationary work permit after which a green card and then eventual citizenship if they have already proved to be obeying the law and contributing to our society.
@joe,
Your prophecy is noted.
I need a Cloudfare mentor! It seems that when I try to reply, Cloudfare either did not work or disappears. Oddly I can perceive a perfectly blank rectangle of exactly the Cloudfare box on the screen right where it would be….the Ghost of Cloudfare. Original comments seem to always work. Anyway, responding to Joel, Marshall seems upset, but how does Hochul justify booting Adams? No conviction on any charges and the main “accusation” now seems to be something that’s legal – cooperating with the federal government. His chances of re-election are very low…I think she ‘tsk, tsk Mayor Adams’ but that’s all. She doesn’t want this in court, which is where it would go if she were to try it on the basis that guys like Marshall are suggesting. “Your honor, yes all that was legal, but people were yelling at me.”
Eric:
When you log, wait for the spinning object to stop spinning and says success. before pressing enter. Also checkmark the box that says remember me. I assume you are using the automatic entry of name and password.
Do not rush it.
