The Republican Party

Today’s Republican Party stands back and stands by in case we need to deal with the past. Have for years, now. For no good reason, it has aplenty the dumb as dirt, ignorant as a pig, mean and cruel, and corrupt members of Congress. Kentucky’s First Congressional’s best and brightest says it all. Mostly, they make lots of noise and obstruct. Few — if any — are willing to take a hand at governance.

Meanwhile, the Nation and the world are transitioning from the Industrial Age to the Digital Age while laboring to rein in rapidly accelerating Climate Change. We are especially vulnerable at one of our most perilous times ever: we could use a little help up front.

Right now, we and the world need our best and brightest up front. Governments everywhere need forward-looking politicians who want to solve problems and make government work for the people; reality-based politicians willing and able to deal with the present and look to the future.

In theory, members of The United States House of Representatives represent Congressional Districts that are representative of areas of their state. In reality; many districts have been gerrymandered to represent a political party’s and/or candidate’s interests. Some sixteen current Republican House Members owe their seats to gerrymandering — are unrepresentative Representatives. Consequently, the current House majority itself is not representative. It is not about any party’s, billionaire’s, or candidate’s interests; it is about We the People’s.

For too many congressional members from both parties, too much of the mother’s milk for their campaigns came from out of state; much of which comes from the uber-rich.

It is well known that regressives have been on the wrong side of progress for long periods, sometimes centuries. Over time, most societies have learned to override these obstructionists and move on. From nuisance to peril. It is hard to imagine a more inopportune time to have obstructionists in control; to have them abetting a coup by oligarchs and would-be dictators.

While distracting the Media, the Nation, and the world from the immediate existential threats posed by the Transitioning from The Industrial Age to The Digital and Climate Change with giant billowing clouds of shock and awe, oligarchs in league with a corrupt dotard attempt both state capture (an oligarchic coup) and an autogolpe (a self-coup – Krugman tells us). Instead of having all hands on deck; we get ‘see no evil hear no evil’ and “who me” from Republican Congressional Members. *(We have a Speaker of The (unrepresentative) House of Representatives and a half dozen or so of his colleagues who were party to the January 6 2021 Insurrection. Johnson, Jordan, and others helped plan and execute the attempt to overturn a legitimate presidential election — were on the phone with the then Administration several times during the attack on the capitol. What they did was criminal.) * With no known exceptions, the whole of today’s Republican House of Representatives is co-opted and corrupt. What they are trying to do is disgusting and their not doing what needs to be done is unforgivable. Worthless as tits on a boar would be a bar too high for this lot. Just now, two (< 1%) of these gutless wonders growing a spine would be enough to steady, perhaps even save the ship.

Alas, in these most vulnerable of times, we are dependent on a House of Representatives controlled by a co-opted corrupt Republican majority, a similarly co-opted and corrupt Republican majority Senate (It has been decades since Senate Republicans did anything positive. In rank and in file, obstructionists. At best: concern, thoughts and prayers.), and a co-opted corrupt Supreme Court majority to save the Nation from a would-be dictator and state capture. Neither of the three are inclined to do the right thing. How can they not see what is happening to America? It’s surprising that their own children don’t see the threat they pose and rise up against them.

A Supreme Court majority made up of ‘umpires’ chosen not for their wisdom, but for their ideology and partisanship. A six/three majority that intentionally dragged its feet to save a known to be corrupt, felonious, ex-president from prosecution. That granted almost unlimited immunity to a known con artist and thug. Obstructed justice. They (along with Republican Senators who twice failed to convict an impeached president whom they knew to be guilty as charged) are those most directly responsible for our predicament. Each of the majority brought an agenda; each seeks a chance to impose that agenda/ideology on us. None of the six are wise. More than three are on the court because of dark money masterfully employed by The Federalist Society’s Leonard Leo in cahoots with old principles himself, Mitch McConnell. May they rot in hell.

In these most vulnerable of all times, our vaunted three coequal branches of government have proven unable to provide the requisite checks and balances; unequal the task at hand. Three out of the three are on the same wrong side of checks and balances. This when the Nation is in a most perilous situation.

The current makeup of the Supreme Court and the Republican Party is not a fluke of history. It is more than fifty years in the making. Many of its instigators and prime effectors have died of old age without seeing the fruits of their labor.

The War 1812 was too close. Losing the Civil War would have been a set back, but the North would have survived and thrived as a democracy. Now, the ten thousand year old now climate that allowed for all progress since is at stake. Climate Change is the elephant in the room. It is the underlying cause of the threats we ae seeing to: democracy, economies, world order, — to civilization. It even threatens survival of the species.

Republicans in the House, Senate and Supreme Court; now is the time for heroes. The time for patriots to stand up; to step up. If just a handful of you from each body grew a spine and a heart; together, we could save America.
