Biden to promote his plan of taxing the wealthy

… to continue the path he has set: higher taxes on the rich, increased aid to the needy, a determined focus on equity and more government investment in health care, climate change and infrastructure. …

      1. In reality, historians have noted that his presidency has already been consequential. No, he isn’t F.D.R., but F.D.R. also didn’t have the slimmest ever majorities in Congress in modern history.
In perception, Biden’s legislative agenda is all but dead. Republicans control the House after all. And its a group of lawmakers that cannot even seem to know what they agree on much less how they can block Democrats, who not only control the White House, but also the Senate and just a few votes shy in the House. In reality, Biden has been counted out before on legislative matters but after a lot of waiting, eventually some of the biggest spending packages ever on the topics of health care, climate, child care and infrastructure were passed. And no one is talking about COVID the way they were when Biden took office, a function that was both his luck on timing and in his administration’s efforts to get vaccines into the arms of people who wanted it.

In perception, the economy is on the verge of recession. In reality, during the Biden presidency the national unemployment rate is at a 50 year low, inflation is down, and household wealth record broke records (though down in recent months). … (no fee link)

      NYT: 7 Takeaways

      • Fred C. Dobbs says:
        February 8, 2023 at 6:37 am

President Biden delivered a plea to Republicans on Tuesday for unity in his second State of the Union address, but vowed not to back off his economic agenda and offered no far-reaching, new ideas in a speech filled with a familiar litany of exhortations from more than four decades in political life. …

Ordinary Joe showed us last night what MAGA looked like in a blue suit, much better dressed than in red.

      Ron:

Gotta duck out to the state capitol this morning and complain about corporate HOAs. I will be back later this moening and then gone again for a while. Eric might be here.

        Run,

Good luck.  Morning Joe this AM was raving about Ordinary Joe’s SoU speech as well as well as exposing those ugly red undies.  Despite being well to the left of O-Joe, he does to me seem to be the right guy for this moment.

        Take care.

It appears Mike Pence wants to privatize Social Security, that is convert it into a 401k type of investment program with participants suffering the risk/reward traits inherent in such programs. With all attendant risks. Probably a very disturbing idea to many.

Alternatively, take (some) Soc sec benefits away from those who have abundant 401k income, instead of increasing their income taxes.
