Trump: My Two Cents. Or maybe Ha’penny. Farthing?

Trump echoes German concerns about the Obama/Clinton saber rattling outside Vilnius and the neocon talking heads pick on his choice of words about Russia’s very real nuclear weapons.

Flying my PUMA flag.
At lease we have this now: http://www.alternet.org/sex-amp-relationships/trumpsingles-dating-site-people-who-support-donald-trump
It’s saving two other people.
A post to say you have nothing to say?
Warren are you just begging to be banned?
One Open Threads are pretty much “posts to say you have nothing to say”. This one just has what I thought was a catchy title.
Two you have to be on a pretty damn irony deficient diet to put up a content free comment like “A post to say you have nothing to say?” Why the fuck even click through?
I don’t need to be liked, I don’t expect to be liked. But it sure as hell pisses me off when some pissant just posts with the clear intent of baiting me and/or for the pure joy of being a contrarian trolling thread hijacker. If YOU have “nothing to say” then DON’T SAY IT.
Wow. Can’t take a joke.
Must be a Monday.
Warren it is not like you have shown a noted sense of humor. I will say that your comments by and large only piss me off on days ending in ‘y’.

On the one hand, Madame Secretary is running well ahead of The Donald in most polling. Significantly better than Romney was at this point.
On the other hand, neither Trump nor the GOP is spending any significant money on advertising yet in any likely battleground state.
It is far from clear that either has significant money to spend. For example the Trump campaign sent out a begging note for $100,000 to get some ads up on the air.
http://addictinginfo.org/2016/06/18/self-funding-trump-gets-desperate-shamelessly-begs-donors-for-100k-in-a-day/
And Trump gave a trademark “You’re fired!” to Corey Lewandowski this morning and had him escorted out by security. Some people may think that since Corey was the ‘mastermind’ of the ‘Let Trump be Trump’ ‘strategy’ that the campaign may pivot to a more traditional fund-raise and spend on ad model, but frankly it is too late. Divide a billion dollars by the number of days left in the election season and Trump and the RNC would need to be raising about $8 million A DAY. Trump has shown no appetite for that. Perhaps because he is on record saying he only donates to politicians that he wants to buy and have stay bought. That is everything for him is totally transactional. From that perspective asking billionaires for money implies that he is for sale and will stay bought. I don’t think his ego will stand that.
Instead Trump is likely to go on preaching to the literally converted (to his message) and extrapolating from a couple thousand people in an arena or hanger to millions of people in the voting booth. And so continue to believe he doesn’t need traditional campaign structures and spending. I am confident in saying that is a path for failure. Epic failure. And it may be too late for corrective action. Who wants to throw millions of dollars into a raging dumpster fire?
Apparently not Wells Fargo, UPS, Motorola, JPM Chase, Ford, Walgreens, Microsoft or Coca-Cola. http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/corporate-sponsors-keep-their-distance-republican-convention
Might save time to just list the ones that are still planning to sponsor the convention.
i dunno.
if wells fargo is agin’ him, i must be for him.
Is Donald using the same business model that wrecked his casinos? Multiple times? Financial disclosures show he paid his own companies about 2x what he spent on payrolls in May. He only has 1.2M$ on hand about 1/40th what HRC has.
Did he expect the GOP donor base and SuperPacs to bail him out? Hilarity!
Hillary-ity! is more like.
There is some great commentary around that explains The Donald is basically following his existing “development” playbook. The GOP identified a ready set of marks for him, he gave them the pitch they wanted to hear and started hiring his own operation to flesh out the “vision”.
Now that it looks like the project will underperform, he’s not putting a dime of his own money into it without a clear exit “winning” strategy. That’s the GOP’s job. If they won’t do it he’ll move on to the next thing, whether it’s a radio show, cable channel, reality TV series or whatever. He doesn’t care because he’s not getting paid to.
And in some sense it still seems pretty likely to me that part of the problem is it overperformed; a project he initially undertook only to enhance his brand and stature turned out to hand him the nomination. Which wasn’t really part of the plan and not particularly interesting to him anyway. He mostly just wanted to sell more books etc. But now it turns out he has a hit on his hands on terms he didn’t negotiate up front.
Voila a non-campigning candidate.
oh, no!
Springtime for Hitler?
Something like that. But in The Producers they oversold the shares beforehand. Now he “has to” find money for something he may not care that much to be bothered with.
As billmon is pointing out on his Twitter feed, his anti-immigration anti trade agreement agenda isn’t likely to be a big seller with the GOP .1% fundraisers he needs to win.
The thing that can keep this interesting is that jobs and trade appear to be issues HRC’s campaign ceded to Sanders a long time ago, at least wrt the primary. Not clear how much room she will have to maneuver on those issues without alienating her own high rollers.
But maybe she can make enough out of his failed casinos to avoid a lot of scrutiny on them. Maybe.
And just in case anybody wants a convenient (if somewhat dated) recap on how the GOP got to this place here’s a great post mortem by a blogger I am liking more and more: http://www.ginandtacos.com/2016/05/04/postmortem/
One of the least popular politicians in modern history has to like these odds. Bully for her!
alienate the highrollers
not much chance. they will understand she is only trying to get the low rollers votes. they can take the policy from there.
There is a very interesting story over at the Daily Kos.com today on Trump reading Hitler speeches…Be sure to read some of the many fine comments there also…Is there any correlation?
Perhaps. Remember that with Hitler it was all ‘mein’ and ‘ein’:
Mein Kampf. Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Fuhrer.
And not Ein Partei. The NaZis worked for the Fuhrer, like all the various Trump organizations their role was to serve the leader first and the country second. If indeed there was any distinction seen.
And for all Madame Secretary’s good fortune in having The Donald as a GE opponent, I’ve noticed a certain emphasis in the campaign in talking mostly about him. In her speech on the economy in Ohio today the coverage I’ve heard/read talked mostly about how she’s drawing distinctions between them.
If she’s campaigning on her own economic strategy and policies (outside appointing Bill as her chief economic adviser) it’s not being covered much. It begs the question – does she talk about Trump because she can’t get covered otherwise? Or because it’s safer than revealing how little she’s offering most voters in terms of actual policy direction?
Wm Ryan,
Hillary should be reading how Hitler got in trouble in Russia and stop hiring neo cons.
DKos is spam.
She’s got Brent Scowcroft endorsing her. http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/trackers/2016-06-22/former-george-h-w-bush-adviser-scowcroft-endorses-clinton
She doesn’t need Sanders voters. Works for me.
