New tax law signed by Pres. Obama, DADT passes Senate
MSNBC reports Obama signs tax cut bill into law :
The Senate vote was 65-31. The House had passed an identical version of the bill, 250-175, on Wednesday.
Link to S4023 as passed by the Senate today.
Obama was expected to sign it next week, although the change wouldn’t take immediate effect. The legislation says the president and his top military advisers must certify that lifting the ban won’t hurt troops’ fighting ability. After that, there’s a 60-day waiting period for the military.
Open gays in the military is probably ok provided they serve in some rear echelon postion (no pun intended) similar to how women in the military serve. There wiould probably be some problems if they served in combat units. Marines at Quantico used to make sport of going to gay bars in DC just to beat up “fags” so we don’t want that kind of dynamic. Most open gays are too effeminate to be combat soldiers anyway, so they will neither gravitate nor be selected to serve in that capacity.
This is just an attempt to further legitimize their lifestyle. I don’t have a problem with that either, just recognize it as symbolic, and it’s going to cost Obama more votes.
MG, your links don’t work.

Are we homophobic or simply uneducated? This X-Marine gave a rats-ass about what the other guy did in the privacy of their bedroom. I would venture to say most of us don’t care. I would rank your post the same as the law in Texas outlawing obscene devices. Stupid

CoRev,
JS-Kit doesn’t include the last colon : in the link, so I added / at the end of the two bills. That fix works. Never tried that before tonight.
Not sure why last character in the link is not highlighted here. Anyway, adding the forward slash is a good solution.
Thanks.
You should see the stats on marines who beat up their families physically or verbally in noisy and quiet fashion. Quite the drama as well, and also part of deal.
an x-marine may not give a rats-ass, but this former-marine does. the old saw about dropping the soap in the shower is more apropo now than ever.
Not being of either world I can’t offer personal anecdotes. But the sexual tensions involved do not seem to simply be caused by the actual presence of gays …
I suppose you can be bothered all you want, but Amos says he will follow orders.
Yea, DADT, A Democrat legislation signed by Dem President Bill Clinton is fanally gone!
The Dems used their majorities to finally undo a past Dem mistake!

Right again, Buff. I’m no fan of Clinton’s when it comes to his many forays into triangulation. DOMA is another doozy. Something tells me that DOMA would be much harder to repeal. Nevermind that the logic is the same and we should not treat some citizens more equally than others. NancyO

sorry, you don’t seem to know much about gays.
NO,
Here I disagree. Homosexual marraige is not a right. Marraige is a benefit that provides certain perks provided by the Government. The government is well within its pervue to decide who gets these benefits. And don’t tell me the government can’t discrimination. The government discriminates all the time based on skin color, race, age, gender. It would be perfectly legal to send a $1000 IRS refund check to all blue-eyed blonds. The Feds and states do this kind of stuff all the time. We treat some citizens more equally than others all the time, 24/7/365.
So if two homosexuals go out and want to live together, have a nice ceremony etc . Go for it. Lawrence was decided correctly, the gov has no business telling anyone who they live with. BUt that does not entitle you to the benefits of marraige determined by the government. Its not a right.
Not withstanding that I think homosexuals should be allowed to marry with all the benefits that pertain. I just do not beleive you have any positive rights, becuase that is the road to slavery.
