Armstrong Williams: tip of the iceberg?

It seems AP and CNN have finally decided to run the story:

The Bush administration paid a prominent commentator to promote the No Child Left Behind schools law to fellow blacks and to give the education secretary media time, records show…The GAO has twice ruled that the Bush administration’s use of prepackaged videos – to promote federal drug policy and a new Medicare law – is “covert propaganda” because the videos do not make clear to the public that the government produced the promotional news.

So the Bush Administration has cross this line before. A reader of Josh Marshall’s blog asks the following question:

Question: who else has been on the payroll? They sank a quarter of a million into one not so prominent commentator to push a single issue – not even one where they really needed help – and they never greased anyone else? Not so credible.
