Longer Hours, Less Pay

Last spring, the Bush administration tried to change the rules governing overtime pay in such a way that would prevent millions of workers from receiving overtime pay for overtime work. A public outcry resulted, and the Bush administration backed down and said that they would change their proposed changes to be sure that workers would not lose their overtime benefits after all.

True to form, however, the Bush administration has acted exactly contrary to their promise. The EPI has just published a briefing paper appropriately named “Longer Hours, Less Pay,” which analyzes the Bush administration’s new and improved regulatory changes to overtime pay. The result is, unsurprisingly, that millions of workers would still lose their overtime pay.
