“Why” does Trump lie? Because he believes it is in his best personal interest to lie. That isn’t interesting. What’s interesting and shameful is that he continues to get away with it.
Getting away with it???? Where???? Trumps problem is he really isn’t running for reelection. You don’t embezzle 100 million.and say your running. Con men con. Activist conservatives will learn the hardway.
He says what he wants it to be. It is his legacy from Norman Vincent Peale The Power of Positive Thinking. He says how he wishes it would be not how it actually is. Does he realize it is a lie? I am not sure. All his life he says what he wants it to be and then starts pushing, and bullying and bribing and blackmailing and often it works and he gets what he wants. So he does it again. In his previous life there were very few to challenge what the said and call it a lie. They just began running around trying to get him what he wanted. He usually did not encounter anything governed by science so he got his way more often than not. My theory anyway.
Presumably because Trump thought widespread panic would
lead to a Wall St crash, and what he considers ‘the economy’
would be devastated, costing him re-election. Could anything
be more important than that? After all, Trump is working with
an alternate reality here.
Is President Donald J. Trump really George Orwell’s Big Brother in the flesh? Ever since Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, the mainstream American media have depicted him as such, with his defenders in the conservative press and broadcast outlets accusing his opponents of doublethink and thoughtcrime. This article examines the extraordinary way in which the Trump administration has become a magnet for the language of Newspeak, a contested site where the catchwords of 1984 are bandied ceaselessly by his allies as well as his adversaries. …
… Trump repeats his lies, expecting them to go unchallenged. But a lie is always a lie — presidential repetition can’t change that. Of course, that will never stop Trump from trying, even as his untruths endanger lives.
In a recent interview with The Atlantic, Alexander Vindman, the decorated Army veteran and key witness in Trump’s impeachment trial, said, “Truth is a victim in this administration. I think it’s Orwellian — the ultimate goal of this president is to get you to disbelieve what you’ve seen and what you’ve heard.” …
well, a lie is always a lie until you get enough people to believe it.
most people are convinced by repetition.. unless they have a pre existing belief so important to them they can’t let go of it even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
there are also lies that are snuck in so naturally that people don’t stop to think about them. they usually forget the lie itself but not the general impression it created in them about the “bigger truth.”

Whenever a reporter does his or her job – Trump calls that reporter a “disgrace”. Wear the term with honor!

Mary:
Thank you for your comment. You describe his being accurately. He has not met some of us who will not be driven by his madness.
What is ‘truth’?

(Not so vaguely related.)

The Orwellian “Amerika” of Donald J. Trump?

Trump is desperately trying to distance himself from his failed presidency
