Joel, I get your point and I guess Ten Bears is probably one of them. I would suggest that the people who did not vote for Trump but voted are about one third of the voting population. Folks who did vote for Trump are another third. Finally there is the third of the population who could not be bothered to vote because it does make any difference. I think Mark would say FAFO to them too and I agree. At the end of the day 2/3rds of the country chose or was fine with cruelty, hate, and incompetence and will reap what they have sown. I do not like it and I do not like my country very much right now, but I am too old and have too many ties to this country to leave— my wife remains a Canadian citizen, so that part would be easy— and just have to hope that enough of those 2/3rds will do some soul searching before 2026 and 2028. Trump would not be a problem if the GOP was not entirely comprised of sycophantic cowards.

Ten Bears, I was agreeing with Joel that you are in the collateral damage group–so am I and all my family, but I am both disappointed and angry with the 2/3rds of my fellow citizens who supported Trump or did not bother to vote. Say what you will about the problems with the Democrats and their communication skills, the bottom line is that 2/3rds of this country was fine with a cruel, despotic, incompetent and senile man as president, who lies about everything and anything, and is the most corrupt elected official in this country’s history. And every one of those voters and non voters knew this because he had previously been president when his lies and incompetence cost 1.2 million Americans their lives. I am morally convinced that he is also a Russian agent whether willingly or by reason of the compromat that Putin has on him, so I do get a small measure of satisfaction from FAFO, but never intended to include you in that group and I apologize for not being clear in my post.
Terry, your numbers are spot on. According to census.gov, about 65.3% of eligible voters turned out. Trump got just under 50% of the vote so almost 33%.
Murkowski said it was a bad bill but voted for it anyway. I have to give her credit for one thing. I always thought Republicans would sell out their country for their party. It was nice to hear one actually admit it.
Not following well at least two of the “FAFO” points raised. Workers – of any color – are going to take ag jobs only if they are better opportunities than they otherwise see. Deportations would seem most likely to improve compensation in the ag sector, but nobody is obliged to work in this sector. Similarly with students; the value of a debt-financed education isn’t impacted by the number of manufacturing jobs out there. If your educational attainment and experience are worth $120k/year, you won’t likely take a $60k/year factory job. You can if you want to, but such a choice seems unaffected by who is President or the partisan makeup of Congress. Healthcare makes better sense as far as potentialFAFO.
Ten Bears, I think you misread Terry’s comment. I think he said you are part of the collateral damage, not the responsible group.
Eric, don’t confuse micro economics with macroeconomics. What anyone can accomplish is not necessarily what everyone can accomplish. And my comment on people of color was not meant to be exclusive to that group.
Joel, I agree that there is a distribution of accomplishment, but the original comment, at least to me, indicated a thought that voting for Trump would create 3 “FAFO” situations. I think 2 of the 3 make no sense, to be blunt. Healthcare might.

unemployment for recent college graduates has ticked up over the last few months.
unemployment for blacks has ticked up over the last few months.
It is estimated that 1 in 5 young men are not working.
There are currently almost 400k unfilled manufacturing jobs.
Undocumented immigrants make up about 40% of food production workers.
Able bodied people will be cut off from government assistance unless they perform some form of work. So when you look at the statistics, what conclusion do you come to?
