No More Driving Miss Daisy or Whoever . . .
It is too expensive and my vehicle does not guzzle gasoline.
Gasoline Prices
Just curious as to what Angry Bear readers are seeing for gasoline pricing. At a Shell Station (Riggs Road and Alma School, Sun Lakes, Arizona), the price was over $5 per gallon. I do not remember the change part of it exactly. I believe it was 12 cents more. Quick look at gasoline prices in the United States.
Shell just charges more. What can I say? The other and more local gasoline stations are at $4.96/gallon. So, for 20 gallons (if I was at empty) we are talking about $3.20 in savings for a total fill up. Do I go to the lower price gasoline station? I could do so. What would I do with the $3.20 in savings?
First thought is a pint of good beer. Unfortunately, a pint of good beer goes for more. Quick scan of the United States . . . The costs are for a pint of beer. “How Much a Pint of Beer Costs Across All 50 U.S. States in 2026,” VinePair. Prices per pint are on the site.
Arizona beer (where I live) is slightly less costly than where my Eastern friend Joel lives. Even so, the money saved from using other stations (rather than the Shell) will not pay for a pint of good beer. There are some beers that may go for that price. But, sometimes the quality of the beer shows through.
My 2015 VW Passat gets over 35 mpg if I stay at 70 mph. The CX50 gets into the thirties also (have not measured it exactly). We are relatively safe in gasoline usage. There are quite a few half ton, 3/4, and 1-ton pickups roaming the roads at greater than the posted speed limit. Quite a few of them are the cleanest vehicles on the road. Bought for show with a jacked-up appearance and oversized tires.
Many have altered exhaust systems which makes them noisy. Look at me. Look at me . . . Kids will be kids at 30+ years of age. I guess “‘mommy and daddy‘ didn’t pay them enough attention” as they were growing up so they carried the need into adulthood looking for attention. I prefer not to be noticed and quietly go about my business.
If I had to drive the 12 or so miles from Maricopa to Phoenix and then another 10 to get to work, then what? I would probably get a smaller more efficient vehicle to take me to work. Then leave the oversized, gasoline guzzling pickup truck with the super clean bed in back at home. Didn’t they all have Tonka trucks to play with and get this out of their system?
Mostly, I believe we should tax them more to recover some of the gasoline guzzling costs.

Not a surprise California would be more expensive, They do have a different outlook when compared to other states. I am guessing environment would be one of them. This pricing breakdown is from 2025.
If the cost of acquiring the oil increases, would the costs to process it also increase? It should not. Here is the article from where I pulled the image.
Why California usually pays more at the pump for gasoline
I am confident you already know much of this. I put it out here for others. Do I disagree with California laws? Hard for me to say. In Arizona, people disconnect the EPA mandated requirement that are built in by auto makers,
