The NRA wakes up to ICE
I’m opposed to allowing private citizens to carry guns in public unless they are hunting on public land. The 2nd amendment explicitly links “bearing arms” (nobody “bears arms” into a 7-11) to membership in a well regulated militia, Antonin Scalia notwithstanding. If you believe you need a gun to protect yourself in your own home, fine.
I’m also opposed to concealed carry. If we’re going to allow people to carry, it should be conspicuous carry. All civilian firearms should be orange, the same orange as a hunter’s vest, so I can spot them from a distance and avoid the company of ammosexual amateurs.
Alex Pretti was packing legally. He had a concealed carry license. He was the proverbial “good guy with a gun.” But he was murdered by the government, giving the lie to the juvenile notion that guns in the hands of civilians will stop government oppression.
The NRA and other gun manufacturer lobby organizations have long defended the proliferation of deadly force under the control of untrained amateurs in public spaces. So it was at least internally consistent that the NRA is pushing back against the Trump administration on the Alex Pretti assassination:
“The NRA waded into the national dialogue over Pretti’s killing after Bill Essayli – who was appointed by Trump to temporarily serve as a US attorney in California in 2025 – posted on social media: “If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you.”
“In response, the NRA posted: “This sentiment … is dangerous and wrong. Responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations and demonizing law-abiding citizens.”
“Gun Owners of America, a non-profit lobbying organization, also criticized that claim from Essayli – who is now an acting first assistant US attorney for California’s central federal district court.
“Federal agents are not ‘highly likely’ to be ‘legally justified’ in ‘shooting’ concealed carry licensees who approach while lawfully carrying a firearm,” the group posted.”
Still waiting to hear the NRA quote Jefferson: “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.” Will the NRA start organizing angry short white guys in camo as well-regulated militias to oppose the tyrants of ICE? This is the moment their ammosexual army claimed they were arming for.

Orange? Orange and specifically barrels and barrel caps is a standard color to designate toys. There are millions of toys out there that deliberately incorporate orange specifically to identify that the are not real guns.
I said I felt Good wasn’t likely trying to injure anyone. She was doing something she did thousands of times (driving) that she never associated with threatening. She panicked. The agent may well have just shot her because he could. I don’t feel as sympathetic to Pretti really. He woke up and assembled a kit to kill people with and went off to the ICE riots with it. He took his “Walz Productions” camera and inserted himself in a great place to knock out 3 or 4 or 7 with bleed-out hollow point rounds. Do the investigation. Assign accountability for sure. But this nice nurse was not a confused mom. He prepped to kill and actively put himself in the middle of an on-going LE operation.
@Eric,
There are thousands of American civilians who legally carry concealed weapons every day. By your definition, they are all prepped to kill wherever they are. Pretti was no different.
There are millions of toys out there that look like real guns. I chose orange because hunters wear orange and it doesn’t interfere with their success in hunting. Personally, I’d prefer Barbie pink, since it would diminish the manliness factor.
Like Good, Pretti wasn’t trying to injure anyone. Indeed, he was a VA ICU nurse, a caregiver for Americans who served their country. He was wielding a cell phone, which is what triggered ICE. He was on a public street/sidewalk and wasn’t interfering with an ICE operation. He didn’t unholster his weapon, let alone display or fire it. The ICE agents didn’t even know he was packing until they tackled him, pepper-sprayed him, and started beating him. They disarmed him first and then shot him. That’s not public safety or self-defense, that’s an execution.
I’m not sympathetic with, nor would I ever defend or rationalize, unprovoked executions of US citizens. YMMV.
Ahhhh:
What ignorant remarks. You make some broad-based remarks about a civilian who was entitled to carry a bullet-spewing weapon. The amateurs who panicked in this situation were the authorities, the professionals, and not the civilian. They could have asked him to lay down his firearm or leave as a result of his possession of a bullet spewing weapon.
Instead, they attacked him for whatever mind-boggling reasons. Maybe they were untrained or partially trained. Sounds more like a bunch of amateurs instead or experienced and well-trained law officers. There are reports of some not being fully trained and also being low-grade newbies.
Literally, they murdered a civilian shooting him multiple times. Even in the military, you do not get to murder people who are not a threat. Alex Pretti was not a threat and should have been warned off or told to lay down his arm. We do not get to “murder” civilians.
