Obama and the modern Democratic Party
I voted for Obama both times. I don’t regret that at all. I think he was among our better presidents, although that’s a pretty low bar. One of the things I fault him for is that he didn’t do much to build the party he led. Looks like I’m not alone.
From a paywalled CNN article:
“People who know Obama say he has been surprised and appalled in how many of the rich people who now form his social circle have made concessions to Trump. He’s reaching out to business and other institutional leaders, urging them not to bend to the current administration even if it helps their bottom lines.”
He’s surprised? Seriously? I doubt it. Embarrassed, more like. As well he should be.
From Duncan Black:
“One of Obama’s flaws is that he is an elitest. He does believe the rich guys in nice suits should run the world, and that they will do it competently and benevolently.
“Not sure how he came to that conclusion.”

The pyramid he’s building to himself in Jackson Park speaks volumes about his narcissistic streak.
@Jack,
Narcissism is a job requirement for any politician who runs for national office.
No doubt. I think it would be good for all concerned if it stopped manifesting itself after leaving office.
@Jack,
And how would you suppose a narcissist could voluntarily abandon his or her narcissism? Gene therapy?
Will power? A desire to improve? If addicts can do it, why not narcissists?
@Jack,
LOL!
People die from drug overdose.
Since when do narcissists believe they can be improved?
Maybe he needs an intervention.
@Jack,
Maybe he can redeem himself by working for Habitat for Humanity. Worked for Carter.
Actually, the area where he’s constructing his pyramid could use lots of affordable, and decent, housing.
@Jack,
Somehow, I don’t see Barack picking up a hammer.
Jack:
It has been a bit since I have been on the south side. Barack is into monument building on the South Side?
I know the area around Jackson Park was not so great, The park iyself was ok. Just don’t go there at night.
Bill,
It’s supposed to be his library. It’s in the park itself. You can probably find drawings and photos of construction in progress online.
Jack:
I am going to go out on a limb here . . . There will be plenty of Chicago police around the park making the park rather safe.
