What a Stupid Thing to Do . . . Shooting Over a Freeway
But then, we are dealing with dumb and dumber.
California Highway Patrol Border Division Chief Tony Coronado said in a statement. “This was an unusual and concerning situation. It is highly uncommon for any live-fire or explosive training activity to occur over an active freeway. As a Marine myself, I have tremendous respect for our military partners, but my foremost responsibility is ensuring the safety of the people of California and the officers who protect them.”
As an XMarine also and who was attached to self-propelled M109 155s, we went over to Fort Bragg from Lejeune to participate in the arti-shoot with elements from Fort Bragg. Not much out there and I believe our rounds stayed on Fort Bragg. Neither did they pass over a public area. I think it is unusual to shoot over a highway if other sites are available. My own opinion being . . . I am seeing this as an act of intimidation by the Tr_mp administration.
And one round prematurely detonated over US/CA5, which appears to be a short distance from US/CA5.
As you can see Whiskey and Red impact areas are distant from the highway. It is obvious something unusual took place. There is a pretty good detail and discussion going on here. There has to be more to this as the highway is close to the range itself. The round should have traveled further before an issue.
Both Vance and Hegseth should know better. You do not need to be in a war to know there can be issues with arti-shoots in the field to gain experience. It is like taking your weapon of choice to the range and target shooting. Just bigger . . .
