Government Shutdown – What About Medicare and Social Security?
The AMAC Foundation is kind enough to allow Angry Bear to use its information from the Social Security Report: “Government Shutdown? Medicare and Social Security Benefits to Continue Uninterrupted.”
Here is the latest of what will happen if the Gov shuts down.
Washington, D.C. Democrats and Republicans seem to be headed for an impasse when it comes to keeping government daily operations funded after September 30th. Both sides seem to be locked into their respective legislative priorities, with no compromise in sight. And that likely makes many American seniors nervous about whether their Medicare and Social Security benefits will continue!
As this article by Lindsey Copeland at the Medicare Rights Center explains, both Medicare and Social Security benefits are not dependent on the federal government’s regular operating budget. Rather, since neither Medicare nor Social Security funding are dependent on the legislation set to expire, both will likely be only very minimally affected if the Federal Government does shut down, and that affect will not include benefit payments.
