Gaining Ground after a Political Shooting? It did Not Happen Like it was Supposed to . . .
After the shootings, Utah Representative Lee wrote on X:
“This is what happens when Marxists don’t get their way.”
In another post, he posted a photo of Boelter with the caption “Nightmare on Waltz Street.” The caption appeared to be a reference to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat. Lee has since deleted the posts mocking a political shooting.
“Move to unseat Mike Lee gains steam after Utah senator’s tweets mock Minnesota political shootings,” The Independent.
Democratic state Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their Minnesota home. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot in their home, but survived.
I guess this is what happens when politicians attempt to take advantage of the shooting of opposition politicians and family by using such an incident, a murder and wounding, as a way to gain a political advantage? It backfired and it did not give him the bandwidth he had hoped for from constituents or the news. Erasing the comments is not going to remove the stigma of applauding a shooting, a murder.
However, it will probably not be enough of a stigma to allow another candidate whether Republican or Democrat to replace him. It is already thought a Democrat could not unseat him. However, a popular candidate running as an Independent make have the political leverage to do so. Doubtful for a Republican to run against him.
As far as Mike Lee? What an ass . . . To be filed in the “Have you no sense of decency?” drawer.
