Confusion in the Camp of the Enemy
Trump’s tariffs have appalled all right-thinking people. They have also appalled many right wing people. Trump has long since lead us to the strange state of agreeing with Mitch McConnell, but now he has united all but the most servile right against him (unfortunately Trump serfs control Congress and maybe, the Supreme Court).

Importantly Charles Koch and Leonard Leo
This puts me is the very strange state of agreeing with Leonard Leo about the US Constitution and US Law. We agree that Congress did not (and can not) authorize the President to ignore treaties and laws just by saying the magic word “Emergency”. For now this makes him an ally!?!
I guess Murdoch may still be trying to reach agreement.
I have listed a significant part of the effective right wing in the USA. I guess Trump can manage, as angry pseudopopulist, racism, and xenophobia were always the key to power for the above listed pro-business right.
However open combat is new. And promising.

Trump is a lame duck, Steve Bannon notwithstanding. The stock market assault should accelerate the process of succession planning. Perhaps it will also make it possible for conservatives, rather than right-wing extremists, to define the party.
Robert:
You forgot nutjob in your description of Trump. As Joel mentions, Conservatives could take over and would be more welcome than radical nutjobs.
@Bill,
I remember Howard Baker as Senator from my then-state of Tennessee. Today’s GOP would treat him as a radical leftist. Same with Eisenhower.
Honestly, I’d be happy to see today’s GOP die. The Democratic Party, which is the Conservative Party today, could replace the GOP, and then maybe we could have a real liberal party.
We would not have much to write about then . . .
Robert:
What would a reasonable man do if in Trump’s position? I feel confident, they might approach an aggressive country and threaten them with a tariff. Trump is a rather strange person. His entire life has been about threatening people to get his own way. This is called making a deal. .
If Repubs and Dems can reach some type of agreement, they could bring a stop to Trump.
There was reporting last week that the US has moved a half dozen of its big bombers to Diego Garcia. I am predicting that if Mad King Donald’s popularity falls enough that he will bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities in an effort to boost his ratings as a “ wartime president”. It will also make Netanyahu and Saudi Arabia happy and he has done so much for Putin that I doubt whether Russia will do anything except condemn the western aggression.
@Terry,
So . . . wag the dog.
Terry:
Proximity can be a threat also. But against what and why half of the entire operational B-2 force? A show of force without doing it is one thought. Or just practice.
