DOGE attacks national security
Both my dad and my father-in-law worked throughout their post-military careers at Y-12 in Oak Ridge. During the war, Y-12 was the site of uranium enrichment by the calutrons (K-25 was the gaseous diffusion plan, enrichment by gas chromatography). Having grown up in Oak Ridge, I’m quite familiar with its role in national security, unlike president Musk.
“The Trump administration terminated the jobs of federal workers at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge before trying to undo layoffs at the agency in charge of the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal, according to a Y-12 source with knowledge of the terminations.
“The source spoke to Knox News on a condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter and could not confirm the number of workers who had been laid off at the Y-12 Field Office before the terminations were rescinded.
“The firings have been criticized by elected officials as a sign that the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s teams at DOGE did not understand what the agency does, or that nuclear weapons work happens in the Department of Energy and not the Department of Defense.”
What a bunch of clowns!

The initial firings technically caused a Broken Arrow event.
Oops.
Could this be this first step in dismantling the US plan to spend $1.7 Trillion renewing its nuclear arsenal?

@John,
LOL! Since the terminations were rescinded, I’m guessing not. But you’d have to actually read my post to know that.
I spent “quality” time in Strategic Air Command (ground support for bombing in8th Air Force) and also NORAD from mid ‘70s to mid ‘80s.
Nuclear war is immoral as well as dangerous to humanity with no good outcome. My view includes the use of the bomb on Japan.

Living on several ground zeroes I know a bit about national insecurity
@paddy,
“RAND corp made a career excusing tactics, espousing game theory and devising Mutual Assured Destruction.”
And how many nuclear wars have happened since WWII? How many nuclear bombs have been dropped in conflict since the ones in Japan? Seems to me that MAD has worked pretty well for the past 80 years.
