Vance . . . Trump administration would end funding to Planned Parenthood

You are going to hear a lot from Vance saying, “Trump would, Trump says, Trump did, etc. Vance has little foundation to support his commentary. It will always be they said and not I believe or say . . . That is the Republican version of a vice president. Feet made of sand . . .

Vance’s comments on Saturday against one of the biggest reproductive health-care providers in the nation stand in stark contrast to recent positioning by himself, Trump and other Republicans on the issue of reproductive rights.

…A large percentage of Planned Parenthood’s funding comes through Medicaid, federal grants or other programs that reimburse Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide for providing birth control as well as preventive screenings for cancer and sexually transmitted diseases for low-income Americans who are eligible for free or cost-reduced services through the Title X family planning program.

According to the organization’s 2023 annual report, 34 percent of its revenue comes from government health services reimbursements and grants, 47 percent from private contributions and 18 percent from nongovernmental health service revenue.

In response to Vance’s comments, Jenny Lawson, executive director of Planned Parenthood’s super PAC, said federal funds cannot be used to provide abortion care at any point in pregnancy and warned that taking those funds away from the organization would “rob millions of people across the country of vital, affordable care.”

Kareem’s Take: Vance’s justification to remove health care services for the 2.1 million people that Planned Parenthood serves annually is to prevent late-term abortions, defined by the medical community as an abortion after 21 weeks (roughly 5 months). Yet, abortions after 21 weeks comprise only 1% of abortions in the U.S., and they almost always occur due to a serious abnormality with the fetus or a serious risk to the woman’s life. This means these medically necessary abortions would take place regardless of Planned Parenthood.

That means Vance’s attack isn’t about “late-term” abortions (which is a political term, not one used by medical professionals), it’s about continuing the campaign to eliminate abortions to further reduce women’s rights and status in American society. To gain votes, he would put the health, safety, and lives of women at risk.

That is Vance for you. Willing to sacrifice others in order to gain political points. He will sure be a great VP (rolling my eyes).

Vance needs to learn to shut his mouth also.
