Meanwhile, I have just watched a bunch of self described Christians violate their oath before God.
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
They’d better start hoping there is no God, cause if there is they are well and truly f!cked.
From the defense attorney at the first impeachment, Benjamin Robbins Curtis.
“Here party spirit, political schemes, forgone conclusions, outrageous biases can have no fit operation. The Constitution requires that here should be a “trial,” and as in that trial the oath which each one of you has taken is to administer “impartial justice according to the Constitution and the laws.” the only appeal which I can make in behalf of the President is an appeal to the conscience and the reason of each judge who sits before me. Upon the law and the facts, upon the duties incumbent on that high officer by virtue of his office, and his honest endeavor to discharge those duties, the President rests his defense…
…It must be unnecessary for me to say anything concerning the importance of this case, not only now but in the future. It must be apparent to everyone, in any way connected with or concerned in this trial, that this is and will be the most conspicuous instance which ever has been or can ever be expected to be found of American justice or American injustice, of that justice which Mr. Burke says is the great standing policy for all civilized States, or of that injustice which is sure to be discovered and which makes even the wise man mad, and which, in the fixed and immutable order of God’s providence, is certain to return to plague it’s inventors.”
Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding, a Chinese-American epidemiologist and public health scientist, referenced the paper in a lengthy Twitter thread explaining the pathology of the virus and the possible misinformation about the epidemic provided by the Chinese government.
“BOTTOMLINE: 1) Seafood market not the source,” Feigl-Ding wrote on Twitter. “2) This RNA #coronavirus mutates really fast. 3) has unusual middle segment never seen before in any coronavirus. 4) Not from recent mixing. 5) That mystery middle segment encodes protein responsible for entry into host cells.”
The doctor added, “TO BE CLEAR: I am absolutely not saying it’s bioengineering, nor am I supporting any conspiracy theories with no evidence. I’m simply saying scientists need to do more research + get more data. And finding the origin of the virus is an important research priority. Goodnight.”
The doctor went on to discuss the possible – but unconfirmed – link between the new coronavirus and human immunodeficiency virus.
The link that I provided is for a study done in India.
Here is the abstract:
——————————————
“We are currently witnessing a major epidemic caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019- nCoV). The evolution of 2019-nCoV remains elusive. We found 4 insertions in the spike glycoprotein (S) which are unique to the 2019-nCoV and are not present in other coronaviruses. Importantly, amino acid residues in all the 4 inserts have identity or similarity to those in the HIV- 1 gp120 or HIV-1 Gag. Interestingly, despite the inserts being discontinuous on the primary amino acid sequence, 3D-modelling of the 2019-nCoV suggests that they converge to constitute the receptor binding site. The finding of 4 unique inserts in the 2019-nCoV, all of which have identity /similarity to amino acid residues in key structural proteins of HIV-1 is unlikely to be fortuitous in nature. This work provides yet unknown insights on 2019-nCoV and sheds light on the evolution and pathogenicity of this virus with important implications for diagnosis of this virus.”

I take “unlikely to be fortuitous in nature” to mean unlikely to happen by a lucky chance in nature.
Lets hope that researcher is wrong even though he is saying he could be wrong. This takes on a different hue if what he surmises may be true. I lack for the correct phrasing here.
I personally think this represents failure on the part of the press and the public’s small attention span. I can almost forgive the partisan and very often emotion laden rhetoric, but I always thought that the written word carried more weight and therefore more responsibility on the part of the writer but I am just an old-school guy. Now that the “written” word is just electrons spewed onto a virtual page, I don’t take them as a serious attempt at fact-finding or god forbid, truth. I knew the SS rhetoric from Repubs was 99% a lie and that SS is fine as long as all us plebes guard it thoughtfully. But I didn’t learn that from just any old website. Like anything else finding something close to the truth on the interwebs takes a whole lot of effort.
finding truth of any kind requires a whole lot of effort. human brains are not “truth machines”, they are association machines. it is possible sometimes to try to carefully arrange for associations that may lead to the truth about some things, but by no means guaranteed.
still, we have to get on with our lives and do our chores, so we become victims to those who carefully arrange associations to lead to what they want you to believe is the truth. this seems to have been going on for thousands of years.
i only claim to know a little bit of truth. but i am curious to know if you learned anything from this little old website.
I haven’t spent much time here over the years but I enjoy the clarity of well written arguments. So I hope to visit more frequently when the chores will allow.

This is an interesting read.

Me: It would not surprise me if this was an experiment by the military.
No.

Run75441,
Sorry, I should have checked your link but did not because it did not match mine.
But the article in your link did have a link to the study which I was referencing.
After reading that study, I think that this coronavirus MAY have come out of some lab located in the city where the coronavirus first went public.
That is a scary scenario. I have always assumed that experimentation with potentially deadly viruses always took place in level 4 labs.

Thanks all for providing relevant content rather than relying on my ability to click on links.

By all means stop by and comment. We are pretty open to good and sane commentary.
