That would be Moscow State University, the “Harvard” of Russia.
Not in the MSM at all, but I have my sources. Apparently sometime last week, the FSB and the successor to the domestic arm of the old KGB, raided Moscow State (whose main building is one of those “Stalin Gothic” skyscrapers) to capture a student who had been posting leaflets on walls protesting recent government actions. He was reportedly taken into the library and severely beaten to the point of torture.
Oh yes, VV Putin is such a lover of knowledge and science, just like his flunky, Donald J. Trump.
Happy Thanksgiving, you all.
Barkley Rosser
Addendum: The student was accused of “terrorism.”
As far as I can tell, Russia will never change. That’s not a strength. That’s a weakness.
“terrorists” are now the go to reason for oppression.
A million uighurs In China can verify that.
How I would debunk Putin’s “return-Russia-to-great-power-status” to Russians: I would compare Putin to Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev who was infinitely more dangerous to the world than Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.
Khrushchev put IRBMs in Cuba that could have wiped out the last of our Strategic Air Command bases hosting 750 B-52s without warning. IRBMs has already made our 1400 B-47s vulnerable to instant knockout in bases that needed to be right up against the borders of our eleven time zone adversary because or the B-47s intermediate range.
Khrushchev threatened to take West Berlin — surrounded by East German territory and vulnerable to tens of thousands of Soviet tanks. Khrushchev materially supported the communist insurgency in Laos. Just to name a couple of hot spots. Khrushchev ran around the world fomenting any serious trouble for us that he could.
Khrushchev was a true believer. Khrushchev was a good human being — he thought he was fighting to free mankind from the oppression of capitalism.
Putin in his bid to revive (at least the feeling) of Russian the super power tries to have influence in the Middle East by aiding the pipsqueak president of Syria carpet bomb his own country from end to end for five years, killing half a million Syrians in the process. The good human being would not have done that. Putin lands a couple hundred troops in troubled Venezuela to prop up a socialist dictator who was about to abscond to Cuba (why we didn’t land a couple of hundred troops to neutralize them I’ll never guess — oh, I forgot; Putin does have big time influence one place in the world, in Donald Trump’s White House, but that’s not something he accomplished, it was given freely to him).
Putin is simply the first among power hungry and cleptocratic oligarchs.
Putin is no true believer — nor has he any grand vision for Russia. Compare Putin to Khrushchev to the Russian people if you want to take his imperial image down more than a peg or two.
Why are you so sure it was freely given to him as opposed to obtained through bribery and extortion?
Barkley,
I think you suffer from chronic Russophobia. Or smoked something really strong. You should read Stephen Cohen more., although I am not sure that it can help.
You just describes the set of action so stupid that they are unrealistic.
Putin after all is a lawyer and he understand how the neoliberal MSM fueled by Western money would react to such an incident.
Can you explain why this student was not taken to court and charged with vandalizing property and forces to couple of month of community work plus to pay the cost of cleaning as is typical in such cases?
IMHO this is not how Russian authorities usually behave is such case — they always suspect well organize western provocation — look at Pussies provocations and the authorities reaction.
Why FSB needs to chaise a poor student giving neoliberal MSMs another golden opportunity to smear Russia, Not like you did — without any evidence, but with a credible evidence? This is police work.
