It is ironic that Bill Clinton Monica Lewinsky affair so lowered the bar on what is acceptable for a President, that Trump’s alleged picadillos now draws mostly shrugs. After all “it is only sex” and “it’s just his private life.”
“Then, in February 1997, Starr basically admitted he had nothing and announced he was quitting and going to be dean of Pepperdine Law. And did conservatives accept this outcome? Never! Safire, the Journal, and others browbeat him into reneging on the announcement and staying in the job. He still kept turning up nothing until 11 months later, when Kellyanne Conway’s future husband told Starr’s investigators about this woman named Monica.
In other words, Starr ran a four-year campaign—and yes, that one was indeed a witch hunt—during which no one found any credible evidence that Bill Clinton did any of the many nefarious things the right wing accused him of. Yes, he lied under oath. But he did not suborn perjury. They just made that up.” Digsby
Funny, I do not remember Clinton paying off women $hundred of thousansds and he was investigated for 4 years. Trump was white trash from the day his dad conceived him. Your continued defense of him places you in a similar category.
Bill Clinton was getting blow jobs by a 20-something intern in the Oval Office while President. He then lied under oath about it, aka. “perjury” These are facts and were defended. So anything short of this, and there is a lot short of this, is now small potatoes. Y’all set the bar.
You know what else is ironic? If Clinton had resigned in shame, as was expected, Al Gore would have assumed the Presidency. And if he just did an OK job, as an incumbent President, he would have been able to overcome the 500 vote margin that he lost to Bush in the next election. So you would have had an 8 year Gore administration, instead of an 8 year Bush administration.
What was considered a humiliating defeat to the Republicans and a pragmatic victory by the Democrats, actually turn out to be the opposite. That’s what you get when you go with expediency rather than do what is right.
Didn’t Clinton go through the process of being impeached for lying and obstruction? 4 + years of Ken Starr investigating the Clintons and then more years of congressional investigations by a republican prosecutor and the most which can be claimed is an act of sexual misconduct which came at the cost of $millions. Did Clinton pay anyone off through an attorney? Did he threaten to fire anyone week after week?
The irony here is the Clintons have withstood everything Repubs have tossed at them and who have achieved nothing. All we hear are more lies and stories well after the investigation has turned up nothing.
We are slightly over 1 year of investigating Trump and Republicans and the threats of firings continue. That is the irony

Interesting: the vote in the senate to convict Clinton was 55 to acquit. The senate at the time was nominally republican.
If Trump gets there will it be partisan?
ilsm:
Guess we will have to wait and see if it gets that far.
I have to say I never, ever realized that sex in the White House started with Clinton.
I’m certain that Elizabeth Ann Britton Harding Blaesing is very surprised also.
