Laugh at Sessions and Suddenly You Are in Federal Court?
Fairooz was detained after audibly laughing after Sen. Richard Shelby told senators at Sessions’ confirmation hearing that the then-Alabama senator had a record of “treating all Americans equally under the law.”
That is laughable as Sessions is flying under the radar having learned you can not be so overt about racism and prejudice.
Mind you, Desiree Fairooz did say something after Congressional Security start to remove her from the room. “Support civil rights, stop Sessions” and yelled “Why am I being taken out of here? This man is evil.”
Nonviolent civil disobedience is little more than a misdemeanor. For Sessions you go to Federal Court, then they ask her to plea bargain?
I thought this case had been thrown out. Laughing is a spontaneous act — when you’ve been mentally tickled. Ticklishness: an incongruous sensation of vulnerability: you are not really vulnerable, so you laugh instead of cry.
Somebody should ask Sessions how laughing compares to crying in Congress for spontaneous act. Plenty of reason to cry with Congress — whether or not laughing hurts someone’s ego more is irrelevant.
Apparently there is more to the story:
“Fairooz was found guilty on both counts, the New York Times reported, although jurors who spoke anonymously to Huffington Post said it was her behavior when asked to leave, not her laughter, that resulted in the conviction.”

Sammy:
There was no reason to even approach her for laughing. laugh during Shelby’s comments 45 second of the clip. it was barely audible.
Fairooz laughed out loud twice at this claim, and according to the charges filed by the prosecutor, “grew loud and more disruptive” as an officer attempted to remove her from the room.
“Her disruptive behavior included yelling that Senator Sessions’ ‘voting record was evil’ and waving a sign that read: ‘Support civil rights, stop [S]essions’.”

The fact that there wasn’t even one juror who objected to the idea that what she did was even a crime and held out for hung jury just shows how easily fascism will roll right over America.
Sammy
it scares hell out of me that you would even try to defend this action.
does it never occur to you that one day it could be your turn.
like, imagine if the “liberals” win and you find yourself making a disparaging comment out loud, and even making a really loud protest against being arrested. gulag for you.
coberly,
This was at a confirmation hearing, which requires a certain amount of decorum. If she had done the same thing at a public protest, she would have not have a single problem. Try to follow along.
Sammy
you must be one of those who claimed that Rodney King directed his own beating.
are you keeping your brown shirt carefully ironed with the military creases? and do wear the arm band so we can tell you apart.
coberly,
Godwin’s Law: ““if you mention Adolf Hitler or Nazis within a discussion thread, you’ve automatically ended whatever discussion you were taking part in, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in process.”

One comment saying there are rules (not Repub, not Demo) governing decorum in confirmation hearings, and I’m a Brownshirt. Pretty weak stuff there, coberly.
no, Sammy, the weak stuff is in your moral comprehension.
the lady laughed. not usually a reason for arresting them, except in totalitarian states, you who worry about the totalitarianism of the Left because they want tax you to pay for the needs of the government that, so far, protects you.
more so, it is called the “freedom reflex” when Pavlov is torturing his dogs. Only in a police state is a physical, or loud vocal, objection to being arrested for a non-crime, turned into the crime you are being arrested for.
whether your particular style of totalitarian police state is identical with that of the Third Reich is not the relevant issue. what is relevant is that you…. just like some hard leftists not far from here… regard arresting people you don’t like as perfectly understandable.
i wasn’t calling you a Nazi to insult you , or to call forth the juvenile reference to “Godwin’s law” (my God, have you ever done any original thinking in your life?)… it was to try to remind you where totalitarianism comes from and what it looks like.
coberly,
“the lady laughed. not usually a reason for arresting them”
According to the prosecution and the jury, in addition to laughing, she was disruptive afterward, You are not allowed to disrupt a confirmation hearing, else we have chaos. Feel free to protest in this way in other venues, be my guest. God bless.
It was this disruption, apparently, which caused her conviction by a jury of her peers. How the hell is this totalitarian?
These are the facts of the case. Do you not care about the facts of the case? or would you rather moral grandstand? I think the answer is obvious.
Sammy
you read the facts the way you want to see them. and then you do your moral grandstand act.
btw, it is perfectly legitimate to reference the the Third Reich to remind people of where totalitarian behavior leads. I have to guess that Godwin was just someone who got tired of being reminded of his totalitarian propensities.
as for “obvious.” nothing is obvious except to fools.
oops. I forgot I am not supposed to say “fool.” I should have said nothing is obvious except to those who can’t imagine there might be another side to the coin.
if it had been one of your thugs making an outcry when hauled out of a meeting for making an ongoing disturbance, you would have been crying “free speech. free speech!”
coberly,
Your comment makes no sense. You think that inscrutable = profound. It doesn’t. It = confused.
So this is how I see it. The country did elect Trump and Sessions is the AG. It comes as absolutely no surprise that the woman was charged and that a jury convicted her. The only possibility of a proper and just resolution is the courts. Not an unusual situation in this country where a sizable portion of the population equates white supremacists, neo- nazis and KKK with BLM and other ” liberal” groups – you know those that think all people have worth regardless of color or religion. That Sammy is good with this is my point.
