Romney denounces Trump without denouncing his own religion
Hitting on married women? Condoning assault? Such vile degradations demean our wives and daughters and corrupt America’s face to the world.

But Joseph Smith, founder of Mormonism, did the same. Romney is Mormon and follows Joseph Smith. Unfortunately there was no social media in his time.
I have to take issue with you on this, Edward. Strong issue, in fact. Smith lived in the first half of the 19th Century, and it’s a safe bet that Romney, Harry Reid, Mike Lee, Tom Udall, Orrin Hatch and Mark Udall do not accept that part of Mormon history as something to be proud of. Nor, I’m sure, did George Romney, Mo Udall or Stewart Udall.
Most organized religions have some ugly aspects to their history. I’d hate to think that politicians or anyone else should have to renounce or denounce those aspects of their own religion in order to denounce someone for engaging in modern times in what we in modern society consider outrageous conduct and what constituted criminal conduct when it occurred–which is what Trump admitted to.
I mean, I’d hate to think that Jewish politicians who express outrage at what Trump admitted to on that tape would be accused of hypocrisy if they don’t also denounce the deeply sexist tenets of Orthodox Judaism. Same with Muslims, Catholics, etc.
And while it’s not part of formal Catholicism, I certainly won’t consider it hypocritical of Catholic pols who denounce what Trump admitted to on that tape but don’t denounce the Catholic priests who sexually abused boys and teens, or the Catholic hierarchy that protected them for so many decades.
This isn’t just apples and oranges; it’s apples and elephants, or something, in my opinion.
Hi Beverly,
I appreciate your views. All religions have a dark part of their history. The difference with mormonism is that it is completed based on the claims of Joseph Smith. There would be no mormon church if not for Smith. New research that the digital age has made possible clearly shows what mormons have not known since Joseph Smith lived. Even the mormon church adknowledges the truth of the research. It is undeniable now. However, mormons have a choice to make on whether they will continue to follow a man who has been clearly revealed. There is the same kind of support for Joseph Smith that we saw for Trump before the tape… but now you have a worldwide religion that cannot just collapse. They have to disregard the truth.
Republicans have the good fortune to dump Trump now before he gets into power and sets up his network. Mormons did not have the good fortune to stop the development of a false faith. They were not given the truth in time.
There are many mormons who have left the church recently. Many who would like to but cannot due to family and social pressures.
But the situation within the mormon church is similar to what we are seeing in the republican party.
But I appreciate your views… Even though I would love to see the mormons acknowledge the lies that their church is based on and then free themselves from the lies, life is for learning. They will learn in time. Many republicans still stand by Trump, and we may see much more support for him than might seem reasonable. It is a psychological-social behavior that also keeps the mormon church alive.
Many of us are free-thinkers, we can see quickly that Trump is perverse. We can say it and not change our opinions. We can see the mormon church and see the lies and be able to accept the truth. We will see though that many people will not be able to accept the truth about Trump.
Trump will make a comeback amongst his followers. People identify themselves with him. Just the same, the mormons in general cannot give up their identification with the false image of their founder.
Beverly,
Watch the news now… The people who continue to follow Trump overlook his personal shortcomings because they are driven by the movement, the vision of the movement. The followers of Joseph Smith do the same.
One important person in the early years of mormonism was Oliver Cowdery. He wrote part of the book of mormon as Joseph looked at a rock in a hat. Look at the moment when he found out about the affair between Joseph and his maid servant. Joseph’s wife had seen them having sex in the barn in a state of loco extremis as she put it. Oliver could not accept this and wanted to tell everyone what had happened. He was told to leave the community and never come back. He did. Joseph was protected.
But the point of the story is that people will overlook the personal shortcomings of someone when they believe in the movement. And early mormons believed in the spiritual movement that Smith was story-telling.
Hi Beverly, As we see this morning, around 13% of republicans will dump Trump. This is what I expected. A big majority will stand behind him because of the movement to disrupt the establishment and seal off the borders. The same type of psychology happened back with the beginning of the mormon church. At some point there is no stopping the movement. People will justify or mentally reframe any falsehood or immorality… to continue the movement.
Joseph Smith has been dead longer than Lincoln. They are both about equally relevant to the current state of the bands of people that use their name religiously.
This is an economic issue as we make ignorant laws like hate crimes that effect the time in prison or if a crime has even been committed. This is almost as dumb as three strike laws.
The do as I say not as I do hypocrisy is live and well in Washington today. If you really take a closer more objective look at the DNC and especially HRC policies they are all experimental in NWO socialism from Mr. George Soros who’s message carries far greater clout in the realm of things happening in the world and Washington today than Romney ever will. I know that most people do not know this nor care but the future of America is being gambled away with greater socialism policies that will create no new growth in GDP or jobs and bankrupt America. The other much greater concern is that of global conflict that HRC will create with Russia along with her “zero footprint policies” we will never really know what happened. Remember that even a limited nuclear war that many fools think they could survive will leave no veterans. Since HRC is so good at starting wars and covering her tracks, I would rather have Trump in command any day as he would be able to talk and reason with Putin as HRC could not…A vote for Trump is a vote for greater world peace while a vote for HRC is a vote for greater world disorder, instability, war, less jobs and much larger government footprint. You cannot have a growing thriving economy where nobody is working (service jobs only) and everything is government provided free does not work…
“Oh, the horror……”
