If the top 1% income continues to receive all the economic growth, then, by the time the output per person expands 50% (25-30 years?) the top 1% income will β€œearn” half of a much larger economy (25% + 50% = 75% of 150%). By the time output per person doubles (typically 40-50 years) the equation will read 25% + 100% out of 200% = 62,5% of an even more massive economy.

Throw in Piketty’s projections β€” massive inequality of rentier income that will be swallowing up even more income decades out.

There is a decades past, around the world tested answer. The most successful labor union in this country and the most successful economies around the world have instituted the only labor market setup that can permanently fend off the race to the deeper and deeper bottom. When are we going to pick up on the possibility of instituting legally mandated, centralized bargaining in the US? It must begin with talking about it.

PS. Walmart in Williston, North Dakota pays $17/ hour to start — be interesting to check how high their prices rose — with only 7% labor costs? πŸ™‚

The AP is reporting that Homeland Security has admitted that 70% of illegal immigrants who were released have failed to report to immigration officials within the required 15 days.

    From: http://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2014/09/26/us-most-new-immigrant-families-fail-to-report

“The Homeland Security Department privately acknowledged that about 70 percent of immigrant families failed to report as ordered. The disclosure came during a confidential meeting at its Washington headquarters with immigration advocates participating in a federal working group on detention and enforcement policies.

The Associated Press obtained an audio recording of Wednesday’s meeting and separately interviewed participants.

On the recording, the government did not specify the total number of families released into the U.S. since October. Since only a few hundred families have already been returned to their home countries and limited U.S. detention facilities can house only about 1,200 family members, the 70 percent figure suggests the government released roughly 41,000 members of immigrant families who subsequently failed to appear at federal immigration offices.”

If they won’t even check in with ICE with 15 days, how will they get a court date??? Every thinking person understood that this was very likely to happen.

This is going to anger the electorate and the Republicans will use it!

I tried comparing the prices of the Williston, North Dakota Walmart — that pays $17/hour to start — and my Chicago area Walmart and they seem to show the exact same line of products and prices. Not sure that isn’t because of the website knows the location of my computer even though I changed the “my store” preference.

Could the excuse be that the Williston store has much better heeled customers who spend a lot more? That works for me: hint.
