The other half of last night’s picture

Ken Houghton | October 30, 2012 11:37 am

Best of all possible results. And the second largest tree branch to fall on our rather small property last night.

I take it you didn’t get a lot of rain after the event, you’re insured, and you needed a new roof anyway.

    no fun at all…

i had a 4 foot diameter 80 foot high maple fall on my house in a september storm, and i’m still reeling…

    rjs,

If the tree made a clean cut some where about the center of the house the best approach to repair is to restructure the shape of the building, put up a new roof that leaves the center of the tree in a court yard center. Alternatively, the branch section of the fallen tree could fill an out door patio area. That creates a nice natural setting as a part of the property. An older large maple is a pretty good looking tree so using this unique situation that god has provided you allows you the motivation to try something different.

Otherwise just have the damn thing sliced up for future furniture construction. It brings a pretty good price in that market.

tree’s already gone, jack…contractor has probably sold the small stuff for firewood, & the crane operator took the two large diameter 16 foot logs, probably to the Amish mill…

chinmey is already fixed, too…all im left with is a bashed in yankee box gutter & a few gashes in a circa 1890 plank built roof…
