If Obama was really considered creating jobs a priority he would have allowed drilling offshore a year ago. I think you have to conclude that he did not want pro jobs policy to take away from healthcare. Same with his abrupt trip to Afghanistan. Him going there right after the democratic majority passed his bill shows that he was putting it off. So it appear he really can’t multi task all that well.

The news on the economy was a small step in the right direction. However, there are too many democrats with too many stupid anti growth policies for the economic growth to be safe. Howefully we’ll be able to reset the compostion of congress to something more inline with 1996 when then president Clinton declared the age of big government preceding 4 years of outstanding economic growth and unheard of low unemployment. Right now we’re not on this path. Go teabaggers!

Realize we have not done their tax hikes or placed all the regulation they want on mainstreet. Hopefully we’ll be able to reset the compostion of congress to something more inline with 1996 when then president Clinton declared the age of big government preceding 4 years of outstanding economic growth and unheard of low unemployment. Christine Romer is a pretty good economic historian – but she stinks as an economic forcaster. What she says hopefully will come to pass but her forecast is no better than a monkey in a wizards throwing darts at a dartboard. I get to say this because she told us that unemployment would stay below 8 percent with the stimulus bill but then it went over 10 percent. I share her hope but have no use for her forecast.

Civilian Labor Force is high because Congress has extended Unemployment Compensation Benefits for 99 weeks. If Congress fails to extend Tier 4 benefits, the Civilian Labor Force will fall. If Congress fails to enact Tier 5 benefits, the Civilian Labor Force will fall. We have the highest percentage of workers out of work and exceeding 26 weeks in history at present. If Congress pays Unemployment Compensation Benefits, workers collecting it must report as looking for work and hence they are counted as in the Civilian Labor Force.

Damn if you discontinue benefits and damned if you do. What is the level up to these days that the Fed has fed on to Wall Street? Has it reached $10 trillion yet?

Christine Romer provided an honest assessment during her interview.  A straight up conversation.

How many others can be credited with that observation?  It’s a short list in my opinion.

I found the link today…thanks for the heads up.   I will check the references.

After checking on Geithner and Summers, I found the conversation reasonably honest too.

    Bruce,

I wish you would stop posting under your sock puppet rdan. It’s seems dishonest. Rdan is supposed to be the site owner. You said you are the site owner. You both can’t be the single site owner. So please decide which identity you like better and stick to it.

Romer was clearly prepped by the political handlers, but was reasonably balanced.

Summers makes me itchy whenever he talks – grrr.

    save_the_ruskbelt,

    huh?

Bruce posts under the rdan username. I know this because at times he’s said so.

On Romer, given her track record I question any forecast she makes. She is an above average economic historian but a below average econonomic forecaster.

I wrote this earlier but Bruce deleted it.
