The Budget Battle
The Bush budget, which would make some of the expiring 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that are set to expire next year, has been put on hold for a while because of the stubbornness of a few moderate Senate Republicans – Collins, Snowe, Chafee, and McCain. Whether the rest of the
Bush lapdogs Republicans in Congress will be willing to compromise with those four fiscal conservatives (because compromising with Democrats would be simply beyond the pale) remains to be seen. But in the mean time, good for them for insisting that the Congress regain some semblance of fiscal responsibility.
