For decades, Canada was unnecessarily invaded by carbon dioxide from US cars and electric power generation, the quality of which is dangerous and totally unacceptable. That invasion is far more egregious and consequential than forest fire smoke in Canada.

Back in the 1960s, political humorist Art Buchwald proposed the US should push back against Canada’s cold air mass superiority during a particularly cold winter. Granted, he also proposed returning the moon rocks to the moon exactly as we found them after a horrible wet spell in late 1969 after the moon landing.

Stopping smoke is impossible, which is why the course of action needed is to put the fires out. Carbon dioxide is a non-issue really in this situation. Canada is not approaching this with even the fervor that Greece brings to the matter! Greece understands that it’s hard and dangerous but the fires need to go out. Canada mainly talks that the fires are “remote” but what they mean is it’s mainly Americans dealing with the smoke, so let’s not spend much money on it (yet). You believe if Vancouver was as bad as Wisconsin was say Wednesday, Thursday last week that you’d witness this much passivity? Americans put way more resources in to fighting wildfires than Canada does, so I think it makes total sense for our President to tell their Prime Minister to raise their efforts. I’d expect President Harris to do the same if she’d have won.

Carbon dioxide is obviously an issue of cross-border air pollution. The US is not approaching this with even the fervor that Canada and Europe bring to the matter! Canada and Europe understand that it’s hard and dangerous but CO2 emissions need to be cut seriously. I think it makes total sense for Canada’s Prime Minister to tell our president to raise America’s effort in renewable energy.
