Justice Amy Barrett Caught after Trump’s State of the Union Address
You have to kind of wonder what some people doing the job they are supposed to do and perhaps have a different opinion, think. Perhaps, and I do say perhaps, the honorable Justice Barrett gets the weevy-jeevys when the President is nearby. Watch the clip in the link below. Courtesy of Above The Law.

Last night’s presidential address to Congress was something to behold — if you’re into bearing witness to the death throes of American democracy. Most notable for (Supreme) Court watchers was, of course, the exchange between President Trump and Chief Justice John Roberts when Trump marked the Chief as a made man. It was a shockingly honest moment, one that ripped the bandage off the illusion of separation of powers.
But on social media, folks have zoomed in on the C-SPAN footage and caught Amy Coney Barrett’s reaction.
Maybe Amy Coney Barrett does have a soul pic.twitter.com/kICrskHf8c
Coney Barrett looks like she just stepped in some dog shit. Which, in a manner of speaking . . .
That familiar look Coney Barrett give Trump seems to indicate a growing schism between the justice and the far right of the GOP. Pulling away from the more extreme positions of her colleagues on the Court has been a theme for the Trump-appointee in recent decisions. And it’s given the left hope that the Court isn’t already in the bag for whatever harebrained constitutional scheme Project 2025 can dream up. But despite the math problem (one vote isn’t much of swing when there are six Republican-appointed justices on the Court), it also requires a fair amount of self-delusion and ignores the devastating impact of Coney Barrett’s vote on reproductive freedom.
So, whatever Coney Barrett’s thoughts on Donald Trump, it’s not a silver bullet that will save America. But given the immense power she holds as one of nine on the Court, it’s comforting to think Coney Barrett has some sense of exactly who Trump is.

Ken:
I figured you and others might like it. Hopefully, she begins to move with the more liberal justices now that she realizes what is being done at SCOTUS.
@Bill,
Don’t bet a lot of money on that.
Joel:
One can only hope.
There’s cause for hope with her record so far and MAGA supporters know it. They are all over the internet criticizing her. She and Roberts can make a real difference. I won’t bet on them but I won’t bet against them either.
Yes, these are the times when we need a little hope; among a lot of other things… But still I had a hopeful experience yesterday.
I posted the following on BlueSky yesterday…
GOP CONGRESSIONALS: Is Trump’s insanity finally settling in, & your constituents are yelling at you? You’d like to say something, but fear Musk, MAGA thugs, FBI or IRS will threaten you & your family. There’s something you can do to become famous & change the world! Switch your Party affiliation.
Seriously, if you’re a patriotic Republican, you know Trump is wrong, not normal, disruptive to the world order, bad for the economy, and undermining the country’s national security. You have a choice to do the right thing for your family, constituents, & country. At least become an Independent.
Later in the day, I received a notice of this announcement…
”Utah Sen. Thatcher leaves the GOP to join the Forward Party”
Hey, he’s only a State Senator, but it’s a start. Like you say, “One can only hope.”
Andrew Yang, former Presidential candidate and Forward’s Founding Co-Chair, said, “Today more than ever, our elected officials are followers. It takes courage to step forward and truly lead. Senator Thatcher continues to demonstrate his morals through the leadership he’s showing today, and we couldn’t be more proud that he’s joining Forward.”
