Live reblogging the Republican Debate
Mike Kimel to the blue courtesy phone
My problem isn’t Newt claiming credit for everything good which happened before he resigned in disgrace, it’s the numbers. Employment increased by less than 17 million jobs during the Reagan Presidency. I call that pants on fire.
The number for Clinton is net employment increase during the overlap of Clinton and Gingrich’s terms of office in Washington (so the Reagan number isn’t some fraction of the gross flow). My guess is that he calculated starting at the trough of the recession (Republicans do that when the President in question isn’t named Obama).
The people who like Sarah Palin ought to love Newt. They are both quitters.
“Politician tells lies shocker!”
Well, yes, that’s why we shouldn’t allow politicians control over our lives…..
Iowa (December 6) – Gingrich: 33%, Romney: 20%
New Hampshire (December 6) – Romney 35%, Gingrich: 26%
South Carolina (December 6) – Gingrich: 43%, Romney 20%
Florida (December 8) – Gingrich: 35%, Romney: 22%
National Average (December 7) – Gingrich: 33%, Romney: 21.3%http://www.economist.com/content/republican-candidates-president
Tim Worstall,
How do I get B of A out of my life? If you’ve been reading my stuff, you know that a few months after we bought our house, they tried to have it sold on sheriff’s auction because someone with a name similar to the previous owner owed them money. (Or so they say, given the chain of errors I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t a debt in the first place.) More recently, after closing out an account they kept charging us fees because (get this!) once the account was closed its balance had dropped to zero.
Or I’d like to get my wife’s insurance company to stop claiming she doesn’t have insurance every time she goes to the doctor. Its starting to get to be tiring – they withdraw money from our (non-BofA, thankfully) bank account each month, she goes to the doctor, and then gets a letter from the insurance company saying “who the heck are you?” How many hours does she really need to spend on the phone taking care of this stupidity?
Now, I didn’t allow them to do any of this. But they did. At least I have a vote on who runs for President. I don’t have any say in whatever it is B of A is going to decide I’m involved in next. Or whether Aetna is going to deny a procedure to my wife because they claim she doesn’t have insurance for which they are charging her. These companies have a greater say in my life than the President does.
Mike:
Do you green card these people when you write to them? If you are not, you should be. It takes time and it costs money; but, it does stand up in court and is a quick way to let them know you mean business. I have done the green card with credit rating agencies several times after asking them to expunge my records after a mistake by a student loan company for my son. It took a year and a threat of lawsuit to get them to react.
There are state insurrance regulators also.
Forgive my ignorance, what do you mean by green carding them? FYI, we actually needed to use an attorney to get our house off the auction block. It seems to me if a company can auction off someone’s property because they believe someone with a similar name to the previous owner owes them money, property rights are a joke. At least with eminent domain the process isn’t entirely random.
Mike I presume that is a reference to certified mail.
TIM, Maybe the better solution is to choose better nominees for each party’s candidate for office. What ever office it may be. We’re going to have government, so the choice of who make it up is the basic consideration.
Mike:
Green Card is a card that is attached to Cetrified Mail (letter) which must be signed by the recipient or the mail room of the business in which you send the letter to. Failure to do so is a violation of the law (I have filled out complaints at the post office for violations). The signed green card is sent back to you, once signed, by the mail man who delivers the mail. It is proof they have recieved your letter and stands up in court. I have used it and it has been used against me also.
Tim
that may be the most naive statement i have read … well, today anyway. politicians are the people who make a profession of having control over your life, even to the point of telling libertarian lies to fool the foolable.
run
mike may have a better case than some. but with state mandated insurance, we have learned who will regulate the regulators.
(hint: the regulated.)
Hello Dan
Not to go way off topic, but if you look at the list to the right entitled Recent Comments, scroll down to the fourth listing you will note that it says, “Jack wrote…

Does Newt take credit for the Clinton tax increases too? Clinton can’t run away from the Republican influenced bad decisions either, the welfare reform he did veto twice as I recall and NAFTA. Obama will be held responsible for caving in to the Republicans, maybe more than he deserves since Republicans are simply refusing to compromise on anything and the nation is at the brink.
The Republicans are the party of the crazies, it is as if we are living in an insane asylum. Child labor laws are stupid, just for an example. Can one talk to some one how says such things? And the guy wants to become president, I am speechless.
lys
the R’s are crazies, that’s for sure. but i am so crazy i think they are putting up crazies so we won’t notice while Obama steals the family’s silver.
O may have “caved into the Republicans” but a good part of the time he was feeding them their lines.
O may or may not be the worst President ever… hard to choose from so many great candidates… but he is the first one I heard on tape bad mouthing his base.
Barry said something bad about Wall Street financiers? I missed that press conference…
Coberly,
I never thought Obama was a lefty, center center-right was my thinking. Amateur is right, he never said anything bad about Wall St. I think he sent Geithner to Europe to strengthen Cameron and the City to protect them from any regulations. It just goes to show us in what a terrible situation we are. We are between a rock and a hard place, why bother to vote? I am more scared of the Tea/Republicans right now. Living in Texas my vote does not count at all anyway. But I am a woman and can’t stomach the right-wing nuts at all.
The US and GB will protect the financiers on Wall St. and the City of London. Who really would gain if the Euro fails?
No no no, it’s “created *or saved* 36 million jobs.”
Slam dunk, Newt! /s
