Via TBogg comes this picture from the WSJ:

Kudos to Xenos at Reading Is For Snobs for finding this graphic from the Wall Street Journal portraying the devastation inflicted upon The Poors in post-Fiscal Cliff Obama Socialism Nation:

Oh, those poor folks (just look at those sad faces!), whose total income tax will either increase slightly, or not at all, on gross income from $180,000 to $650,000. How will they live? Hope there’s a soup kitchen near!

I’d assume this was satire, except it’s from the WSJ, famous (or infamous) for their lack of a sense of humor (or a sense of proportion for that matter).

Maybe the writer and artist were having them on? I imagine anyone grossing LESS than $180,000 yearly would be feeling less than sympathetic.

just to make sure everyone gets the point, i do not personally know anyone who makes half what that retired minority couple makes.

i suspect the WSJ thinks that’s what retired minority couples do make.

Replying to coberly – but of course this pair making “only” 180000 a year are sad (perhaps because of their “low” income) – despite “suffering” no tax increase. Odd.

What I find fascinating is that even the kids look unhappy. Also, the family of 6 is huddled together like a group of refugees.

The image is credited to the Kogod Tax Center of the American University, in Washington, DC. http://www.american.edu/kogod

    Wikipedia tells us:
“The Kogod Tax Center was launched in 2011, capitalizing off the school’s respected MS in Taxation program. The research center promotes independent research and expands knowledge with respect to tax policy, tax planning and tax compliance for small and mid-size businesses, entrepreneurs and middle income taxpayers. Professor Donald Williamson serves as executive director; David Kautter is managing director. It is located near the main American University campus…”

This does not add to the discussion either by substance or tone. You’ll do more for the presentation of your point of view by not writing like a troll.

Of course if your point of view has no substance, that leaves you in a bit of a pickle.
